What a weekend! With my wife off with a couple of her friends for the weekend I was a game playing fool! Other than my 2pm to 11pm shift at my second job on Saturday, this weekend was all games, games and more games. As a matter of fact, my weekend sounds a little like Gen. Warbuff's weekend in the fact that one minute I'd sit down to play some Civilization: Revolution (CR) and the next minute hours had gone by. As a matter of fact, the only game I played all weekend was CR and I still want to play it today. Of course I work a double today so I won't be able to play it until tomorrow after work. I'm not sure about the multiplayer though. As it is now, I can play and watch movies off of my computer or leave the game completely to go play with the dog and that makes the game not seem so long. In multiplayer you have to sit there and play the whole game through which wouldn't be a problem if the game was over in an hour but a three hour game would be torture. There are just too many things going on in my house to completely waste that much time without the ability to just hang it up for a while if need be.
E3 started yesterday and Microsoft announced its lineup. Some cool stuff as far as Microsoft is concerned. Nothing really hardcore like I was hoping for but still cool none-the-less. I guess it's a big deal that FF13 (or whatever number they are on) is coming to the 360 on the same day as the PS3?
...awesome! I had to work both jobs yesterday so I took a long break during the second job and rushed home to play a little Civilization to see if the game is at least as good as the demo. It totally surpassed my expectations! So much so that when I got home last night, after 15 hours of working, I wanted to start a skirmish that I had set up right before having to go back to work. After my shower I sat down for round 1...against America. Yeah, it was the beginning of the game so they went down very easy. Next down was Rome. Third I took China's capital city and then they begged for peace. I can win two different ways right now and it will soon be three different ways once I finish off China. Well, after our 10 turns of peace....of course.
This weekend was a gaming weekend for me. My wife went to her friend's house to hang out and have some girl time so I was left home all alone, just me and my games. Awwww yeah! Let the good times roll!
The main game that I was focusing on was GTA 4. As some of you who might have read my last blog know, I was I having trouble with the game not letting me get through to the ending. I'm not sure if this makes any sense at all but for some reason when I went in this particular path that I was going it wouldn't let me continue. Believe it or not, to get the game to let me continue I had to go the long way around and it let me go. Go figure! Only I would get some bull crap like that! So after some tinkering and figuring out what I was doing wrong I had beaten the game. Woo hoo! It figures that I only had like 10 more minutes of the game to go and I couldn't get there because of a glitch! Since it only took me about 30 minutes more to beat it I was hard pressed to find another game to complete.
Next game up in my rotation...Rainbow 6: Vegas 2. Wasn't too impressed with the game when I originally bought it seeing how it was more of a Vegas 1.5 than a 2 and the online multiplayer is the worst unless the room is completely filled with friends. That way you can make sure that every other player isn't hiding in a corner waiting for someone to walk on by. For everyone whose argument is that it is a tactical shooter, imagine what kind of game it would be if EVERYONE waited around in the corners for other players to come along. Wouldn't be too fun, would it? Everyone would just sit there with their thumbs up something and in pain. I had only completed a couple of levels so by Sunday I had beaten the game. The single player wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. The story sucked though so that was something I could have done without. It was almost like someone had eaten the story of Vegas, threw it up, added a few veggies and cooked it up to make another story and called it Vegas 2. Oh well, better luck next time.
Civilization: Revolution comes out for the 360 today (Wednesday). It's getting pretty great reviews. Most all of the reviews state that it is even better for those that haven't played a Civilization game before. Since that is me I should be in good shape. I loved the demo and was a little frustrated when it would stop right before all the great butt kicking was about to start. I have already begun thinking about getting into a Civ. game for the computer. I guess there is a new one coming out so if I truly like the one for the consoles then I may have to give it a try after a while to see what all this fuss is about.
I did sneak a movie in this weekend. My wife bought 27 Dresses with Katherine Heigle (spelling?). It was actually a really good, funny movie. I was laughing a lot and the story wasn't half bad.
