I just got my PS3 and wanted to share my intial opinion.  A very sleek looking device although a bit on the heavy side.  It looks ready to spit out some grilled hamburgers, but instead spits out some excellent graphics and quite a bit of heat.  I am very excited about the future line up of games and the potential that it can have.  Although I think Sony is poorly handling the PS3's marketing, I think that it will have strong prescence in the long term.

I am a little dissapointed that the graphics from the previous PS2/PS1 titles come out a bit blurry but I'm optimistic that those are being fixed by the new updates coming out soon.  Also a bit foolish that there are no ports for the old console memory cards and that you have to by an additional $15 adapter to transfer data.  (I recomend buying one, transfer the data and then returning it to get something more useful like another controller or the Blu Ray remote).

The controllers are very light (abvously minus the rumble) and have upgraded R2/L2 triggers and system on/off options which are a huge plus.  I have hooked up a wirless keyboard and mouse and am also very pleased with how well they interact (logitech).

The PSP inspired home menu is comfortable, simple and has a nice touch.  I have yet to customize any of the backgrounds, icons, etc. but will definately be playing with that pretty soon.

All in all, I am very excited with the console.  From the moment the symphony intro music kicks in upon starting the system to the ease of navigating the menu and selecting multiple options.  I definately see the potenital and look forward to what this new addition will have to offer.

Please share with me anyone else's impressions/experience and or any recommendations on your customizations or additional accessories.

You said it runs hot, even in a well ventilated area?

I agree about caution when purchasing the first gen of almost anything Sony, but I just couldn't resist. Waiting till the second shipment I hope counts for something.....

I do have my PS3 all set up on my open entertainment stand spaced out by itself and still notice the amount of heat coming from it. Example: I would set a game/dvd case next to it, play for a bit and the case comes away fairly warm. Same happens with a controller next to it. I understand the thing is a pretty massive piece of hardware and some heat is necessary, but no he's going to get very lonely because no accessories want to sit near him for fear of immolation.

I picked up Resistance: Fall of Man and was just blown away by the cinematics to in-game graphics. The the level of in-game interaction is also pretty detailed, you can shoot/break hoses, windows, tables, trash cans, allies. Enemy AI is pretty decent as well and the level of difficult is more than adequate even on the normal setting. It's even better with two player campaign (just more of an ammo constraint). I am really excited about Elder Scrolls 4 next month though as I pretty much don't need to buy another game for about a year after that......well maybe MGS4....and Assassin Creed.
