We've never 100% clarified what is/isn't acceptable to submit to the "User Submitted News" section of guides. Partly we were a bit vague purposely to see what trends or patterns in submissions would follow after implementing this. And the only solid stipulation we've had thus far is "no links to official network sites". Since this contribution has been available for a while, now's a good time to clarify.
Basically, all types of links which point to any reference site or fansite, or anything similar that has any type of valuable info. about the specific show/person, is allowed. This now includes submitting links to official network sites. We figure the more information made available the better. The whole point of TV.com is to be a great resource for television, right? As long as what you are submitting is a specific webpage that is dedicated/relevant to the guide you are adding the link to, then it's fine (i.e., links the show's official webpage, not the network homepage).

An ability to delete junk links would be good, but any kind of quality control by staff at the approvals stage would be a step in the right direction. I have seen dozens of user submitted links that point to a network's homepage or even the IMdB homepage, with the banal suggestion that the visitor enter the show's name to read about the show…
And why stop at user-submitted news? Some news links submitted by staff link to dynamic web pages that have long since been updated and no longer refer to the show or person in question…

Hasn't Danmod posted a thread about this??
Anyway, could we get a different section for User Submitted News and user submitted links. I hate clicking on what I think is a news, in a news section, and going into a fansite without any news

I think it should be news only, people are submit links to sites to get more info, like Wikipedia.

Wow, it's really great news. This should have happened earlier. A few months back, when I submitted an official site for one of my shows, the TV.com staff immediately sent me a "TV.com TOS Violation Warning." And now you say it's allowed?

Finally a clarification on what to put there. So basically it is anything relevant to the person and doesn't even need to be news?

Thanks for the info! And welcome back!

As far as bugs go, unfortunately (argh) there are obviously still some affecting the user submitted news. I'm checking into it to see if the process of fixing those can be sped up, but in the meantime you guys can always report any of those links for moderation if they seem inappropriate. I agree that it would be a good idea to also allow editors of the guides to directly moderate these links (currently only staff or the author of the link can edit/delete it - when that function is working properly).
