Yeah, it's still the most expensive console. And then you need a HD TV to complete it so that you get the ultimate gaming experience...

For someone with no money, you certainly do spend a lot of it on consoles and games.
Honestly, if you want a PS3, just buy one. Yes, it's expensive. But when you consider what features come as standard, it's not that bad. And once you have it, you won't worry about how much it cost anymore - just about which games you want to get :-)
Okay, so running it on a CRT isn't that great - I did it for more than a year before upgrading - but I still thoroughly enjoyed every moment of gaming I got out of it during that time. It certainly shouldn't be a showstopper for getting a PS3.
On the subject of upgrading though - I didn't actually upgrade my TV. I now run my PS3 through a 22" LCD computer monitor. At 1600x1050 it's not quite full HD, but it has HDMI support and it does look amazing. And it's a lot cheaper than buying a proper HD TV.
