Like most Nintendo fanboys, I was excited about the Revolution. In the past few weeks there has been a flood of info. New games announced and even some screenshots of Ubisoft's Red Steel which looks(and sounds) excellent. Unfortunately Nintendo seems to have botched one of the most important aspects of a console: it's name. While Nintendo is trying to appeal to everyone, even none gamers, they can't ignore the core market, which is mostly made up of male teenagers. The Gamecube had an image problem as most of this core market perceived Nintendo as "kiddy". If Nintendo wanted to change that they should have thought up a name easy to remember and sounds sort of cool.(The Revolution was fine.) But now the Wii is going to going to be the laughingstock of the next generation of consoles.(What will the sequel to the Wii be called? Wii Wii
Of course I'm going to still get the Wii(It feels odd not calling it the Revolution) and I'm going to have a really fun time with it. But I cannot help but think how big an opportunity Nintendo missed out on.
