Ed Freeman, Congressional Medal of Honor

You're an 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded, and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley , 11-14-1965, LZ X-ray, Vietnam . Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8 - 1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in.

You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is 1/2 way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.

Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter, and you look up to see an un-armed Huey, but it doesn't seem real, because no Medi-Vac markings are on it.

Ed Freeman is coming for you. He's not Medi-Vac, so it's not his job, but he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come.
He's coming anyway.

And he drops it in, and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 2 or 3 of you on board.

Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire, to the Doctors and Nurses.

And, he kept coming back.... 13 more times...... And took about 30 of you and your buddies out, who would never have gotten out.

Medal of Honor Recipient, Ed Freeman, died last Wednesday at the age of 80, in Boise , ID ......May God rest this American Hero's great soul.

With all the current world news, and the United States in such a mess today, I think we need to remember our country has men like this to be proud of. This is what it's really all about. Guys wearing the same uniform as his are still out there today. Keep them in mind when you think the USA is done for, because they don't think so.

Yes, the honorable US Army. Surely they all joined because they love the good ol' USA and not because they get paid. Yes America loves telling everybody that dieing for a flag is meaningful. America is one big monument to excess. Excess food, excess greed, excess bigotry and defiantly an excess of misplaced pride. Everyone has been force-fed stuff like Patriotism and "freedom". Like 80% of the world is free. Most of you Americans are just fat, prideful, useless, dull, pointless maggots. I say "you Americans" but really, it's the whole Human race. I realize the way I came across was strong and you'll probably be very defensive and absorb almost nothing that I've said, but if you take just one thing from what I said, let it be this: "Fate rewards the far-seeing and punishes the myopic."

Sorry this offends you to hatred. (as you said though"..it's the whole Human race.") Further proof we hate well. You consider this one point then-shouldn't humans who go beyond their own concerns be rewarded, regardless of national boundary? He did that. And yes he's American, so I owe him some kind of remark, being of the same nation. I've heard all the USA=Evil stuff, well it is stereotype to assume every American is the same. Just like it would be stereotype for me to assume that you must be Vietmanese or Muslim, based soley on the content of your comment. But I won't make that assumption. This forum (so far) allows us to express ourself without penalty. At least extend the same courtesy to me for my blog. I may not agree completely with what you've said, but I will defend your right to say it. I think this is the basic human right which will stop us from being".. fat, prideful, useless, dull, pointless maggots." So thank you for your thoughts.
