The title alone should draw fifty comments.

However, I feel that I've been misinterpreted through the bounty of GameSpot emblems, mostly because of that emblem rant I made quite a while back, and partly because I just think of them as amenities, which has sort of caused the emblem addicts (not naming names, but there's a lot) to turn on me. I've even been dubbed "unworthy" of my job as an officer at The Emblems Union...

To put it in simple words... I like emblems... just not as much as the most people do. This seems to take offence to those who claim they'd do a better job in my position at the union. Well, that's not for you to decide, I'm afraid. I could be the technical manager for all you know.

Let's just say, my negligent decline for taste in emblems has primarily derived from the sudden proliferation of emblems. Emblems to the left! Emblems to the right! I honestly liked it better when emblems were in more of a paucity and were "earned" rather than "gained unfairly". I thoroughly enjoyed the incipience of live feed emblems, but they've grown innumerable and monotonous to my taste. On top of that, "emblem hunting" has become a modern fad for basically everyone on the site, and it's hard to maintain any balance between "cool" emblems and "not so cool" emblems. It's like they pop up like the Bubonic Plague from the mid-1300s.

I haven't received an emblem for a while now. I missed my shot at Scavenator twice, couldn't manage to make avatars cool enough to get the Avatar in a Bottle emblem, and... what was that other one that shortly followed the Best of 2006 emblem? Well, no matter the case, I'm sorta desparate for a new emblem, just to prove the haters that I do care about them. Although I'm not doing it just because of that... I still find emblems intriguing, just not as much as before.

The "Avatar in a Bottle" was actually one I was proud to receive, since I had two avatars accepted. Those are the good emblems.

I wasn't demoted. I'm sure it's been on their mind, though...
Posted Apr 10, 2007 6:52 pm PT
I know, I just came here to fix that. I mis-read that part.
Posted Apr 10, 2007 6:54 pm PT
Why should you care about what people think? You have every right to express your views, without having to be concerned about how they will be received (obviously there are a few exceptions). To be brutally honest, I don't see why you still are an officer of that union if you feel this way. Sure, emblems are nice, but it's quite apparent that you feel very differently about them than the other officers of the union do. You're right, emblems shouldn't be sought after - they are designed to commemorate what you've done and seen on the site, so to deliberately go out and try to get them undermines what they represent.

It's YOUR BLOG!!! You have the right to say whatever you want. Don't listen to them, just do what you normally do and don't let it get to you.

Putting this as simply as possible.

What Happy_Cloud said.
Posted Apr 10, 2007 7:54 pm PT
It seems my very long post never got through. >.> I guess i'll just say that categorizing gameplay as video blogs or speed runs is not right!
Posted Apr 10, 2007 8:01 pm PT
Wut? If they dont want you, screw the union. You do your job, thats all you need.
Posted Apr 10, 2007 8:04 pm PT
I've never seen the point in emblems, at all. I mean, they're just pretty pictures. I can post tons of prettier pictures in my blog if the place needs brightening up, and the majority of emblems are earned unfairly, like you said. There was a time when emblems at least meant something, i.e. I liked the reviewer's emblems until I discovered that people were just posting spam to get the emblems, that sort of defeated the purpose for me.

I guess some people like a trophy cabinet on their profile. I, for one, don't see the point.

Emblems are hard to get! I only got a few but I don't really care. Why don't you try getting that biowarfare one or whatever it is. I think it's easy to get.
Posted Apr 10, 2007 8:45 pm PT
I like them, but I don't obsess over them
Posted Apr 10, 2007 9:04 pm PT
You have the freedom to express yourself, just because they didn't like what you said on your rant doesn't mean you can't still provide your services to the emblem union as an officer,no matter how many emblems you have.

I agree with you(3rd paragraph, as much as i like emblems) , emblems are getting way easy to get(via loop holes). I have 20 emblems, I feel that I've earn only 3 emblems throughout the years. Emblems are just like achievement point, the more you have the more ya want.

Posted Apr 10, 2007 10:38 pm PT
Heh, who cares about emblems? I'm stuck with the same emblems since May 2006. SOme people are too holic about this.
Posted Apr 11, 2007 2:52 am PT
Well, there are a lot of people who like emblems. I like getting them but if there is ever one for a live event then I will not just watch the event for the emblem.
Posted Apr 11, 2007 4:59 am PT
I knew somebody was going to say that, Cloud (and, eventually, people would follow in his footsteps). Simply put, I really like my position at the union, so whatever way you thinking I'm "feeling" has officially been re-adorned. I like being an officer there... And I was just proving the haters wrong, since they seem to think that I hate emblems (when I freaking honestly don't). If it makes you feel any better, let's just say those last couple of sentences in my rant were sarcastic.
Posted Apr 11, 2007 5:11 am PT
well ive never been against you being an officer at the union and that outlier emblem is rare!!
Posted Apr 11, 2007 6:00 am PT
Look at the Mess I started now GS is more about Emblems to a lot of people that about games
I must say, it was kinda more fun learning about them and getting them that way and NOT knowing all about them like I do now There are about 300 Emblems on the 3 sites and I know how to get most of them (about 150 are Level Emblems) and now the Emblems Union has over 1200 Members and more join every day.
Posted Apr 11, 2007 6:01 am PT
Agrees with Happy_cloud.
Posted Apr 11, 2007 7:41 am PT
I don't care for avatars, unless they mean something, like the Soapbox or the game collection ones.
Posted Apr 11, 2007 9:24 am PT
They need a "Canucks fan" one.
Posted Apr 11, 2007 12:46 pm PT
i like emblems but i agree that there are way to many givin out for simple things
Posted Apr 11, 2007 1:28 pm PT
Finally you do some work there i was always wondering why you don't do anything there and i also been trying to get more members too mostly New people
Posted Apr 11, 2007 3:01 pm PT
I admit I'm quite a bit into emblems.I admit it's pathetic to worry so much about INTERNET PRIZES.

But I just get this feel of accomplishment, and it's cool.
Posted Apr 11, 2007 9:02 pm PT
Yeah they're just too readily available now and have lost all meaning, sometimes i find myself missing a live feed and watching the broadcast at a later date just to avoid them.
Posted Apr 12, 2007 12:20 am PT
In that case, why doesn't the union expand to be not just about emblems, but rather the site as a whole and all its features? To me, that idea sounds more apealing than a union that simply covers a very small part of what being a member of Gamespot is about.
Posted Apr 12, 2007 12:43 am PT
It doesn't work like that. Like I said, there are too many emblem addicts to count. They'd surely disagree to an idea like that.
Posted Apr 12, 2007 5:06 am PT
I still didn't get the second scavenator emblem either :S
Posted Apr 12, 2007 9:31 am PT
So all they want to do is sit around and talk about emblems and how and when to get them? Can you really base a union around something so small? I guess it's your choice what you want to do, but if it were me, I'd want to try and improve the union rather than change my own attitude.
Posted Apr 12, 2007 2:56 pm PT
The union doesn't need improvements; that's for sure. In fact, if some video game affiliated with emblems it would probably be endorsed by the end of the Summer.
Posted Apr 12, 2007 3:45 pm PT
That's actually really sad that something like that would happen....
Posted Apr 12, 2007 5:10 pm PT
I agree with your 3rd paragraph. There are SOO MANY emblems these days. I liked it back in 2005 when emblems were really hard to get but worth it! Now you get emblems just for watching some sort of "special show" or something like that.
Posted Apr 12, 2007 8:13 pm PT
Then Tishmial, why are you complaining? If the union is beyond the need of improvement, to the point where it would easily be endorsed if it was relevant to games, why are you so against emblems? You know how I feel about emblems, we're pretty eye-to-eye on the whole thing. Don't tell me that you think something so small and menial should constitute such large attention.

I understand that you like being a part of the union, but it seems fairly apparent that you don't really get the whole thing. Based on what you've said about emblems, I seriously doubt that you are fully and completely enthusiastic about the union's cause. I believe you when you say it’s a good union, and I don’t mean to disrespect it, but aren’t you sick of constantly speculating about future emblems, announcing new ones and trying to get them all?
Posted Apr 13, 2007 1:32 am PT
You're right; we do see eye-to-eye on this subject, but I rarely ever speculate on future emblems. I'm there to manage the union; if I wanted to just speculate then I probably wouldn't be an officer. I'm not complaining about the union in general. I'm complaining about the importance of my cause. People think I do very little there (which in some cases they're right), but I was one of the first members of that union; I ran it and inspected every nook and cranny. If you erase all 800 emblem freaks of the 1200 people - almost ignore them - then it's a great place to socialize.
Posted Apr 13, 2007 5:05 am PT
Even though I'm an emblem whore, I don't like to get mine unfairly. I know there are a lot of users on GS that have lied about the games in their collection just to get afficionado emblems, those collector emblems, and whatnot. I don't go that far.

The title of this blog made me think you were gonna rant about my emblem whore-ism Tish.
Posted Apr 13, 2007 6:36 am PT
I'm not even going to go into this subject.
Posted Apr 13, 2007 10:29 am PT
...new profile Tish? Anyway, I'm sure it is a nice place to socialize, and I don't doubt that there are some good people there, but IMO and in yours too, a union solely focusing on small squares of recognition isn't necessary. Wouldn't you rather socialize with people in a different union? Again, the last thing I want is to put down the union, but you have to admit - and really, you already have - that the people there care too much about something so small.
Posted Apr 13, 2007 3:39 pm PT
I ignore them. Emblems are cool and enjoyable. Which is why I like the union. You could say I've gotten used to the emblem lunatics; it doesn't bother me as much anymore.
Posted Apr 13, 2007 5:37 pm PT
Okay. Just remember to stand by your beliefs!
Posted Apr 13, 2007 6:18 pm PT
Sweet, an Assassin's Creed union!

*Stares at everybody and realizes the randomness*
Posted Apr 14, 2007 8:50 pm PT
a lot of people tought the Union would die b/c its a small topic but they were all wrong. The Emblems Union is very big now and gets more Members every day. and it gets many posts every day, about 200 or so for most days.
Posted Apr 15, 2007 6:15 am PT
people just look at how many rows you have, instead of the emblems
Posted Apr 15, 2007 2:08 pm PT
Well yeah the emblems are sorta losing their charm
