So much for getting a PS3 on launch Day

Just yesterday I was imagining myself going to my local electronics store and picking up my pre-ordered PS3. I have my HDMI cable ready. I bought a new LCD HDTV. I even have the day off of work on the 17th. But now I may not even see my new console until after the holiday season.
This realization came after calling my local store to see whether I was going to have to wait until the second shipment to receive my PS3. I however was sorely informed that even though I had spent the money to do a pre-order, the company was unable to secure any PS3's at all at launch, and would not have any for an unknown period of time. Basically he was telling me, we sold you a PS3 that we do not have.
On a positive note I was able to get in touch with someone from their corporate office and he told me I could get my money back. Or I could wait until they get some PS3's and they would sell them to me. Basically I am screwed. I guess the moral of the story is you can't trust every place that lets you pre-order.

Hi, Listen, Im doing a Journalism course for my degree, and Im doing some news stories on the games industry. Im trying to get as much information as I can about the PS3 release. Id really appreciate your opinion as I could use a quote for the story, couls you help me out and tell me how you feel about not getting a PS3 and whether your put of the PS3 or anything?

Sure, my opinion is that the way the launch was handled was not effective. Not only is the system unavailable to many, but even the people who put money down to reserve one are not able to get one. I feel that I have been cheated since I should be getting my ps3 tomorrow. I also feel the consumer is the one that suffers in this situation. I am almost enraged at the fact the store I pre-ordered from doesn't have an exact shippment date. I was so mad at first I thought about selling back my pre-order and getting another system. I hope that sony changes their business tactics or they will lose many otherwise faithful customers.

Does this put you off the PS3 what with its hefty price tag and the accessiblity to own one? Do you feel persuaded to go for a Nintendo Wii or the Xbox 360 perhaps? Would you class yourself as loyal to Sony and stick by the console even if critics feel that the end for Sony is near?

I at first was a bit upset and considered buying a more accessible console. But I quickly changed my mind when I thought about whether or not I would regret buying another system and wasting my money when all I really want is the PS3. In my opinion it seems the PS3 is the better deal. Because of the fact that the PS3 has all of these awesome extra features, they do not need to be sold separately. Of course the 360 is $200 cheaper, but when you tac on a $150 HD-DVD external drive (which isn't available yet) the price is alot closer. The Wii however is very unique and will be successful for a while because of the sheer novelty and innovation of it's gameplay. However it isn't something that appeals to me. I would trade ultra-realistic graphics over a wierd new controller any day. As far as loyalty goes, I might be slightly biased since I grew up using the familiar playstation controller. I am so used to it. It is very comfortable to me. But I think the end for sony would have to be far off. There are way too many highly anticipated games for the PS3 that will keep the system alive for a few years.

Lets be realistic. The number one selling console will not just disappear overnight. In order for this to be the end of sony they will have to be doing worse than one of the companies. As of now I believe sony is still on top.
