I want through the same thing earlier this year and got into both an university and a college, I chose the latter. Feels more my thing and now after a month or so of studies it felt like the right choice.

is there any difference between the two? i'm not sure where you're from, but here in the US I'm not sure there's a difference.

I'm in Finland. So, don't take my word as a given for the US-way.

Anyway, college is a bit more laid back, it's more class based and straight-foward, it's not sloppy though as in it would be useless for you working era.
University is more lecture based, and more uh.. 'by the book'.

Hmm... I guess you could say, Univeristy is the math-club doing precise calculation, and College is the physics team with a hands-on approach, get me?

That's pretty awesome. PS. Why do you need to write an essay to get into your college? My university just saw my average in high school and was like "yeah, you're good enough, come on in."

For some US private universities you need to fill out an application called the Common App, and this includes an essay. Some other private colleges require essays as well.

Essay also let people like me with not so great GPA's get in
