Hi guys,

I haven't blogged in ages, so a quick sign of life. I have a paper to finish this year and then there is Christmas ahead also. Sorry if I missed a couple of blogs, I'll try to be better.

Still, I heard a song a couple of weeks ago and I had the weird idea to try and make my first fanvideo. That is so much work, let me tell you. But I am a little proud of the result. Even if it is far from perfect. So here I go and share it.

It's just two minutes long and all about Due South. I know that most of you guys don't watch it but I'll share the video anyway. Maybe I can interest some of you for the show. I don't think it's spoilerish regarding the plot, I took the scenes shamelessly out of context.

Due South is with Paul Gross and, in its final two years, Callum Keith Rennie (what a shocker ). For me it is feel-good-tv. Worth a try really. It was called homoerotic and I exagerrated that aspect maybe a wee bit. Ok, normally there is "no funny business" (Quote Ray).

Here is the youtube link: click

Or download on Megaupload (flv-file, 22MB):click

I hope you guys are doing well. See you around!

Hi guys!

I wanted to ask you a favor. Daria and me started a project to boost the tv.com rating of Callum Keith Rennie. Some of you already were so kind - Thank you so much!!

In the past couple of weeks he climbed from 7.6 to 8.0 and we are very pleased. I'd love to know what people criticize, but all this three reviews are with a 10.0 rating. Now, we are reaching for the stars and we would love to have him at 8.5 which is unfortunately an even bigger step. Still, it would earn him this little star which we think he deserves.

So, In case you like him a little: Would you mind heading over to his site and show him some love? Anything in the area of 8.5 and above would be so great. Oh and in case you don't care for him, just ignore me and forgive my indecency.

But shouldn't he be lifted up a little?

Leave your Ratings here: CKR on tv.com .

EDIT: He did it! 8.5. - Squeeeee! Thank you guys, he deserves it!

Life will be more quiet for me in the middle of next week, I'll be done with my out-of-town teaching gig by then. It was nice and a lot of fun so far but I discovered that I really like my own walls.

TV setWhat I've Been Watching

Flashforward

I have only seen the pilot so far but it looks like a very cool show. Can't wait to see more and I know many of you feel the same. This is a keeper for me.

The Good Wife

A courtroom drama and I normally don't go out of my way to see those. Still, I like Julianna Margulies and I gave it a shot. Coincidentally, Mack recommended it to me after I saw it, so here you go: I am not the only one liking it. Matt Czuchry (Rory's rich boyfriend in Gilmore Girls) also stars and he isn't half bad. It's a procedural but a nice one from what I have seen.

House

Well yes, loved it. Just for Hugh Laurie, the other stuff was Ok but unspectacular. Good idea to set the premiere in another environment. Yes, it's a medical show, yes, it's formulaic but sometimes it surprises as well and watching Greg is a pure delight for me.

Supernatural

Awesome. I am not swept away from my feet like last season but it is a solid highlight of my week. And to me, Castiel is better than ever.

Dexter

OMG, I need to see what happens next!! How will he get out of this one? I have high hopes for a great season. Dexter as a Dad, very creepy serial killer and Lundy back - makes me happy.

Callum Keith Rennie

You need more convincing to rate him? - OK, I admit, I only use the excuse to talk about him some more.

The more I watch, the more it amazes me, how many different characters he can deliver. Here are a few pictures just to prove that point. If you want to see for yourself you can have a look at this youtube-video. Not really spoilers but when you plan to watch some stuff with him anyway (Battlestar Galactica most notably), I'd rather wait.

Movie: Falling Angels (2003)

My new About Me is from this movie set in the 60ies. He plays a tyrant of a father who uses military drill on his daughters. Yet, he is not flat evil, he is human. That's CKR's specialty.

He is saying "She raised my morale" as he is talking sleazily about meeting his wife.

Guest Spot In A TV Show: Bliss (2002)

It's a show I had never heard of before. Erotica for women from women... And he plays a pretty clichéd fantasy, the nice farmhand taking a part time job. 20 minutes...

icon3

Recurring Character In A TV Show: Twitch City (1998-2000)

He played the total goof here, see for yourself. Much goofier than Due South even.

icon3

Movie: Suspicious River (2000)

What a disturbing role. The charming hillbilly jackass... He said the role typecasted him to play dark characters.

icon3

Guest Spot In A TV Show: The Dead Zone (2002)

Again the sexual predator... Damn, It feels so wrong, being intrigued by the performance...

icon3

Guest Spot In A TV Show: Kingdom Hospital (2004)

He did many roles like this. The broken man. This scene is mighty sad...

icon3

I could show you lots more but I am trying to restrict myself.

Icons From "Battlestar Galactica", "Men with Guns", "Masterminds"

Enjoy your Sunday and have a nice week. I promise I'll try to be less single-minded in my next blog. Maybe I can even go without a ckr mention. Although I doubt it. Take care!

Hi guys!

It's me again, I missed you! And special thanks to Daria, Ivy and Tish for kicking my butt into blogging again.

Life has been pretty busy and coming back tonight is just spontaneous. I was lurking quite a bit during my hiatus and somehow I like lurking. Pretty relaxing... Jumping back in is more fun, though, and I'll try to comment more from now on. Right now, I won't be back 100% but close. I have a paper due by the end of the week and I will be working three days a week in another city for the coming month. Anyway, don't be cross with me when I am not back as I used to be. I'll give my best and I hope everything will be more relaxed in October.

TV setWhat I've Been Watching

True Blood

Breathtaking. I love this season so much, more than ever. I seriously can't wait for the finale and apart from Bill being all wooden, I have no complaints.

Battlestar Galactica

I gave this show a try without watching the miniseries first. Big mistake. I corrected that and what do you know? I love this show. There were some less than perfect episodes but it is really well done and I love the view on religion and politics. Also, this show spiked my newest tv-crush and major obsession: Callum Keith Rennie... He plays Leoben on the show and let me tell you, it sucks to have him as a favorite character because he has way too little screentime. More on him later

Due South (1997)

This is a dramedy that I wanted to check out forever because Bea truly loves it. It's a crime show about this Mountie from Canada, who is just too good for this world. His sidekick Ray is played by Callum Keith Rennie. Can you guess what finally pushed me over the edge to watch it? It's a nice, fun show and of course, my new imaginary boyfriend helps with the enjoyment.

Spooks (UK)

A show about the British secret service that represents all I love about British dramas. You can never feel safe with your characters and the plot is just ruthlessly awesome. It's an exciting show and I got a little hooked here.

More on Callum Keith Rennie

I apologize in advance in case you don't care for him but I have to dedicate a huge part of my blog to him. I can't even remember falling that hard for any celebrity in a very long time. It started slow, at first I just liked him but now I am totally whipped. In my opinion he is gorgeous and a wonderful actor. Not only can he give the perfect villain, he is also not afraid to show himself in a bad light. For me, he is the ultimate scene stealer.

Personal Stuff

He describes himself as rather shy off camera and thinks that some directors find him difficult to work with. He is 48, born in Scottland and living in Canada since the age of 6. He got into acting pretty late in his life. In his 20ies he was mainly drunk but he is sober since his early 30ies and serious about acting ever since. He stopped drinking after a bar fight in which he hurt his retina pretty badly. His eye has healed by now. He has been on several Canadian movies and got some Genie/Leo awards. There were also many many guest spots in tv-movies, shows, and movies that were more and less interesting. He used to have some trouble finding work and stated that he had a year with only 26 days on set. He also loves golf and emphasizes that it is not a rich man's game in Scottland.

Some Notable Roles

His first major success was in the Movie Hard Core Logo (1996), a mockumentary about a punk band in their mid life crises. I'd recommend that film, readers of Playback voted it the 4th best Canadian movie ever made.

icon3

After that, he gave the sidekick on Due South. Here is a little glimpse.

He has been in quite a few movies and shows after that. In some of these roles he was rather wasted, so I'll stick with shows that you guys might know. Remember him from Supernatural 1x02 Wendigo? The guide constantly bickering with Dean?

icon3

I left that picture out at first since I don't watch Smallville but some of you might remember him as the one that controls glass in the season 5 episode Fragile.

And of course the recurring role of Leoben on Battlestar Galactica

The infamous and gorgeous Lew Ashby in the second season of Californication

icon3

And John Wakefield on Harper's Island (creepy!!!)

By the way, my icon is vampire CKR from the movie Blade: Trinity. He was severely underused in that movie, as he was in many other roles. Even the director said so and hired him later for a slightly bigger role in The Invisible.

My About Me is a clip from Normal, a Canadian movie from 2007. His performance of a broken man is impressing.

I only covered a tiny bit of his roles. He was also in famous movies like Memento and eXistenZ and had major roles in Suspicious River, Double Happiness, Last Night, and Wilby Wonderful.

Other tv credits include The L-Word, Bionic Woman, The Dead Zone, Tru Calling, La Femme Nikita, Kingdom Hospital, Bliss, and many more. Not mentioning numerous tv movies that I will probably never get a chance to see.

Photoshop and Me

I was pretty obsessed lately. Apologies for being so single-minded... All Leoben, all Battlestar Galactica...

Hope to see you soon peepsies. Have an awesome week!!
