Hello everyone, it's Mike and I have a little problem. My PS3.....has seen better days. The Blu-ray reader is having problems reading Blu-ray discs. Games and movies that are Blu-ray based freeze after a period of playing, which ranges from 5 minutes to 1 hour. DVDs work fine in it; only BDs are the problem.

Yeah, it sucks. I have 2 options.

1. I send it into Sony. I have confirmation that the box to ship it in has been shipped to me via UPS and it'll be here the 15th. I just got a reprint of the receipt from Best Buy so I have everything that I need. However, talking about Best Buy brings up option 2.

2. I take it to Best Buy and get a new one from them. Yeah, on the receipt from BB was a thing saying about a 2 year extended warranty. My dad forgot about it. Oh well. I can take it there, they take out the Hard Drive and put it in the new one and I'd be all good.

However, I want to see if Sony will take it and see what is really wrong with it so they could possibly help other people. Yeah, me the forever (well, majority of the time) optimist. And I can't find any 80GB PS3s online at Best Buy (and I don't want the MGS4 bundle; I'm happy with what I have). Only 40GBs. So IDK what will happen.

I want your opinion on what you would do.

BTW, I'm doing fine, except for the PS3 being lame.

DON'T GET THE 40GIG!!!!!! Send it to Sony, cuz if they exchange your 80 gig harddrive at best buy, you'll have an 80 gig hard drive inside a 40 GIG system, no backwards compat. DON'T GO THE BEST BUY ROUTE!!!!!!

S_FB: Yeah, I know. That was why I said "Only 40GB."

F_G: Thats a bit low.

dunnuck: Yeah I have MGS4. I don't need another one, thats all. And they told me that that could just swap the HDs out so that was another good thing about BB.

The1: I'm thinking about that. I mean I already got the UPS thing so it'd be a waste if I did the BB thing.

Well if sony will take it back then id suggest them. Brand spanking new and you'd find out what was wrong. And at no cost what so ever.

Give them a try then if it doesnt work go with option 2. Hopefully you wont go wrong. Id need to watch mine then. Just got a PS3 last week and ive been playing MGS4 nonstop lol. Man im going to fry the disk. But it is pretty Amazing.

Here, to be honest, last time I commented, I don't really know what else to say. I guess I'm quite tired that day.

Anyway, what's important is you can have a PS3 that is working, whether you send it back to Sony or Best Buy.

Only send it to Sony if they ain't gonna charge you nothing. If they are, then go the BB route lil homie. But as many say, I don't know if you want to lose the 100% backward compatibility. The 80GB harddrive will still give you backward compatibility, but it will emulation. Emulation is hit or miss in my opinion.

Sony!
Give them extra work, and it's a bad idea to get a 40GB, I have 60 and I should probably have more (I download a lot of trailers and demos and never delete them).

But go for the Sony way!

if they dont charge you at sony, send it to them. If they do charge, try out Best Buy. it's way quicker with BB anyways
