This film, based on The Odyssey by Homer, was quite fun to watch. Although set in the Deep South, it translated the themes very well. There were Sirens, the Cyclops, the Oracle, and the long journey home. They were just done in a very unique way.

The music was excellent, and is a reason to pick up the soundtrack or just a copy of the movie on DVD for the video of "Man of Constant Sorrow". The movie captured the feel of that region as well as the Depression.

The acting was very good, and I have to say, George Clooney won me over, as I don't care for many of his films. John Goodman is, of course, a delight to watch.

This movie is great if you are looking for something a litle offbeat, or for an interesting take on one of the great Greek epics.

I am amazed that this piece of B movie history has been overlooked for so long! It's not much of a movie, but funny in it's own way. It's especially hillarious when watched on Mystery Science Theater 3000. It has the distinction of being made fun of in almost every MST3K episode when it was on Comedy Central. If I ever find a copy of that, I will pay whatever it takes to add it to my collection!

For those who have not read/watched Hamlet, do yourself a favor and please do. If you don't have at least a working knowledge of the play, then this movie will make absolutely no sense and will fail to provide entertainment. It's not that the acting isn't superb (it is) or that the dialogue isn't witty (some of the best dialogue ever), just that there are so many scenes from and related to Hamlet that this can be considered a companion piece.

While trying not to provide any spoilers, there are still many things worth mentioning in regards to this masterpiece. A very short synopsis of the film: Two fellows wake up one morning to discover that they have no memory whatsoever about their past, what they are doing, or even their names. Along their travels they encounter an actor who keeps appearing wherever they go, and provides insight on what is actually going on.

The three leads are wonderful in their roles. In particular Richard Dreyfess manages to make the Actor funny and pathetic, while still being somewhat menacing. Plus a chance to see Gary Oldman and Tim Roth in their earlier days is a treat.

The acting without the dialogue would be nothing, and here is where the movie (and play) shines. This is a movie that is 99% dialogue, and it is worth every moment of it. Very philsophical arguments take place all the time, and manage to be thought provoking and humorous at the same time. And I don't know of anybody who has watched the film that has not played Question Tennis for themselves afterward. A scene not to be missed.

This movie is certainly not for everyone, but for those who like their comedy with a little intelligence, or for people who don't take offence at a little poking fun at the Bard's work, this is a must see.

This is Mel Brooks at his finest. Before the stupidy and vulgar humor of some of his later films, this film showed that Mel Brooks was a force in comic films. The movie is funny throughout. Laugh out loud funny. The performances of Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder were perfect. What makes this film a king among comedies, is that it gets funnier every time you view it. There are so many lines of dialogue that are used as throw away lines, that it is impossible to catch them all. This movie parodies the types of characters one would find in the theatre world, and does a fanatastic job.

The supporting cast does an amazing job as well, from Dick Shawn as LSD, to Kenneth Mars as Franz Lipkin, all the acting is simply hillarious. While not an outright musical, the musical numbers included are really good. And of course funny. The main song is still funny and shocking today. I still am amazed that Mel Brooks got away with it in the time it was made.

As I stated before, this is probably the best film he has ever made. It's a shame that it was his first film.
