Hello again. This is a random outta thin air topic that I figured I'd talk about to get the conversational ball rolling so to speak.

So, as my ascent on the ladder of life gets higher I realize that I can no longer afford the time I once did to play games. This obviously saddens me but on the bright side.....compared to when I was younger I can spend a lot more on games, but then.....I have no time to play them.....oh cruel cyclical fate!!
But this isn't about the torment of time management......or is it?

I see a lot of people getting mad these days at games that don't last that long, or have relatively short story/campaign modes. I don't know about you, but personally I can't invest 40, 50, 60+ hours in a game any more. I've already come to terms with the fact that there are simply many games that I'm just not going to play....ever. This isn't because they're bad, granted bad games don't really do it for me, but even good games, or really great games if they take an exorbitant amount of time to complete, it seems to reason that I would be able to complete one or two games before the next wave of awesomeness comes out. I guess I shouldn't be such a game connoisseur, but man.....there's a lot of good stuff out there!
One example that comes to mind is when Gears of War came out.....there was a lot of clamour about its abrupt story and it was admittedly short, but honestly....how long is long enough? I will admit, I do enjoy longevity of really awesome games but I do enjoy it when I can actually finish a game on a weekend instead of it going to the shelf with the other "oh yea....I played that for a while, but i never beat it" games.

Nice starting topic and I got some Deja Vu from it too since it was a topic that just came up in the Ultimate Video Game Franchises Union (great place to join if you want to rub elbows with some quality gamers). A lot of gamers, myself included, are in agreement with you lionheartssj1. There's nothing wrong with seeing some "short" games out there. My gaming time has declined greatly due to family affairs and house work so a game that takes 40+ hours to beat is literally a many months project for me. Which usually means I will get bored with it and not play it for awhile then eventually beat it a year later. I'd still love to play an epic RPG now and then, but even short games have a place in my collection as I can enjoy some quality gaming and yet not sink a year of life into it. As more gamers get older, start families of their own and contend with the dilema of "how do I keep my love of gaming going with so little free time?" they'll learn the same lesson we have: you enjoy the short games instead of complaining about them because that's all we have time for! Just play what you can, when you can and hide the rest until you do have some free time. I'm just now getting into the PS2 Final Fantasy's myself and will likely waste a year just trying to get through them. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a LONG RPG.

I am in the same boat. I've been rabidly collecting all the games I couldn't afford years ago, and getting now the good ones I want, but time to play seems shorter and shorter! So now I am focusing on finishing games. Maybe I should just get shorter ones...but I love RPGs too! Smadiso1 and I are in a similar boat with you--too many demands on my time. So I play stuff I can get into for an hour and go if I need to. No checkpoint saves for me--if you can't save where you are, I can't be bothered! Short does not mean stupid or "casual."
