As I stated in the other blog I did, I'm a Mario fan and would like to show you my favorite games of him.

Also, I'd like to see someone make a Top 10 list for their favorite Sonic games. So without ado, let get this list started:

10. MARIO PARTY (N64)

The game that destroyed the 1st party controller that came with my N64 way back then. To be honest, when I first rented this, I didn't like it that much. Looking back at this game and the memories of me either winning or failing (or hurting my fingers rotating my joystick) makes me feel like a young teenager again, having fun with my favorite game console.

Honestly, 1P mode is really boring. Multiplayer mode with friends is where this game really shines. Sadly not many people I knew had this game. Can't blame them actually, this game would be the death of your controller. Still, I'd like for this game to make its way to the Virtual Console ASAP.

9. SUPER MARIO KART (SNES)

Only played it on emulator, doesn't hide the fact that this is a good start to the Mario Kart series and a definite fit to my Mario list. Toad and Koopa Troopa FTW. One thing though that separates this game from the Wii version of Mario Kart: the A.I. isn't as obsessed with bombarding you with items non-stop.

Just like Mario Party, this should be on the Virtual Console. I already have a cl@$$ic Controller so I can actually experience this game with a SNES controller (well that's what the controller looks like). I've never been able to reach Rainbow Road on the emulator and loved to race there someday.

8. SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 (NES, SNES)

Ah, the black sheep of the series. The amount of negativity Super Mario Bros 2 got (and still does to this very day). For those who have no idea behind the development of this game: the original sequel to the 1st Mario game was never brought to the western world until the All-Stars remake for the SNES due to how insanely difficult it was (and I would know cause I downloaded the game for my Wii a while back). So Nintendo USA took an unpopular game from Japan, splashed Mario all over it and voila, Super Mario Bros. 2

Personally, while this is not a Mario game if you're gonna compare it to any of his 2D adventures, that doesn't hide the fact that it's a good game. And before anyone says that this game had no influence on the Mario series, explain the recurring appearances of both Shy Guys and Birdo, along with the turnips and Peach's ability to float? Yeah it may not have been a Mario game but it had an influence on the characters.

7. SUPER MARIO GALAXY (WII)

This is a bit of a shocker, huh? With the amount of great criticism this game got, it's kinda low on my list. Hey don't get me wrong, I love this game. It just doesn't break the barrier for Top 5 in my books. Nor do I buy the whole Nintendo took what made Super Mario 64 great and made it spectacular on the Wii either.

Well pretty much, Bowser is at it again, kidnapping the princess and Mario has to save her....again. Snake's quote on Peach's inability to stop getting kidnapped still stands for me. Now graphics wise (which means jack to me), Galaxy is easily the best looking game for the Wii. You could tell that Nintendo went into major details into making this game stand out on their home console. Control wise, relies heavily on the motion sensor capabilities of the Wiimote (which is not my cup of tea for certain stars to collect). Characters, Bowser is once again the evil bastard that he's been for so many years and the intro to this game pretty much signifies that completely. Also they have him growling again as opposed to talking in Sunshine. I hated the way he sounded in Sunshine.

For me, there are certain stars in this game that I truly hate which I have dubbed the Wiimote Stars. These have to collected by various tasks that involves motion-sensor controls on the Wiimote......which I hate. I've beaten the game right after obtaining the amount of stars to fight Bowser again, so I'm attempting to collect the remaining ones which is where I'm stuck at. Oye I hate those stars.

To conclude, while Super Mario Galaxy is not the best Mario game ever made, it certainly has to be the most EPIC out of them all. I don't know, outer space tends to do that to a lot of video games if developed correctly. And with a sequel on its way, I better figure out a way around those damn stars so I can unlock Luigi. Yes you can play Luigi in this game once you get all the stars.

6. MARIO KART WII

I....hate this game. Actually I love it and I hate it at the same time. Most people have a love/hate relationship with video games, this is one of them for me. Granted Nintendo added a lot of nice stuff to this one such as the motorbikes, wheelie mechanisms and tricks after leaping over a specific jump, this still isn't enough for me once you have unlocked everything. Online gameplay is one of the only replay factors for this game and VS mode.

The controls for both the Wiimote/nunchuck combination and GameCube controllers are well done, though the GameCube controller is better for pulling off specific tricks with the D-pad as opposed to the Wiimote at times that normally doesn't register when I wave it.

Another need feature for online gameplay are the ghost runs. Pretty much a random ghost appears and you have to defeat that ghost in less time than it originally made. It's a pretty good way to improve the way you race on tracks and can help you break your own records as I have done over the months playing it. Oh yes, you can use your Mii to race which I rarely do. I find using your Mii to be kinda pointless.

AND NOW FOR THE THINGS THAT I HATE ABOUT THIS GAME. One, how powerful the A.I. can be when they're one of the Top 3 racers. I.E: I was racing on GBA Bowser's Castle 3 and Diddy Kong was the Silver medalist throughout all the other races. Anyways I started off pretty bad and caught Diddy getting squashed by a Thwomp. What happens? He speeds away as if nothing happened to him. The hell? That's something I noticed in all of the Mario Kart games that have never been fixed yet. Plus it gets annoying knowing who's gonna be the silver medalist after every race. Secondly, overpowered weapons and cheap A.I. Imagine having a mushroom ready for a Blue Shell. Then when you're ready to use it, the Lightning Bolt is activated and you're helpless. Oh yes, the more stronger items are more available as the race goes on. POW block, lightning bolt, blue shell and red shell combos are never a good thing. Seriously, if they were aiming to make the game be balanced enough so that even someone who's never played a Mario Kart in their life can win, they did a bad job at it. I can tolerate those items hitting me.........but not one every 10 SECONDS. Geez, one time I got hit by 3 blue shells in one lap which pissed me off. Or getting hit by a blue shell only to be nailed by another one mere seconds later. The items in this game are so unbalanced it's not funny.

If Nintendo makes another Mario Kart game which is inevitable, please. Tone down the items and make the A.I. a bit more challenging. Not uber item rape. That's all I'm asking for. Also, if the items thing was meant to give beginners a fighting chance, explain why my cousin has only won 2 of the many races that we've had........with characters like Funky Kong and Toad.......on the Bowser and Bullet Bikes......on automatic.......yet can never finish a race.

Meh, I have a lot of favorites in this game:

Toadette, Daisy, King Boo, Dry Bowser, Dry Bones, Koopa Troopa, Peach, Luigi, Bowser, Bowser Jr, Diddy Kong, Waluigi, Yoshi and Baby Peach.

I don't have any particular favorites.

Yeah I'm pulling your leg. OF COURSE I HAVE PERSONAL FAVORITES. One of them owns big time in Mario Kart Wii, especially Time Trials. The second person is my personal weapon of mass- destruction (on the count of my item hits increase with this particular person ). This creature I've restriciting to online racing for months now. Nos 4 and 5 are the highest rank of that cl@$$ for me. Out of those names, they change non-stop everytime I play.

Oh BTW:

Has anyone been able to get one of these? How do you do it?

5. MARIO KART 64 (N64, WII)

Ah Mario Kart 64, how I loved you so with the amount of rental time I had with you.

Yes, screw all of my main favorites from Mario Kart Wii. As much as I like them, they can't compare to Toad, Yoshi, Peach and Luigi. Especially in this sequel to the SNES ****c. No bikes, just pure luck and skill on a go-kart. A.I. constantly trying to get the better of you even on the easiest level. Mirror mode, a B**CH to beat for me when I unlocked it. Tons of memorable soundtracks that stand out to this very day (Rainbow Road FTW). Kinda challenging especially when you get left behind. Battle mode is much better than the Wii version even though I sucked big time back then (and still do).

Hell, I remember playing this after a day of college and enjoying myself with a few others. All of them were skilled at the game and I was surprised at how well I did after not playing it for years. In any event, download this off Virtual Console now and get some friends over with GameCube controllers. This game is a lot of fun, I have a lot of fond memories of it and it is easy for me to call Mario Kart 64, the 5th best Mario game I have ever played.

4. SUPER MARIO BROS (NES, SNES, GBA, WII)

Come on now, what would a Mario list if I don't add the game that started it all? This game definitely deserves to be in the Top Five.

Very simple: get to Point B before the timer runs out. Keep going until you reach the final castle of the level, defeat a King Koopa clone, rescue a Toad and continue to your journey. As simplistic as this game sounds, it is still one of the greatest video games of all-time that saved the world from the Video Game Crash of 1983 and was the stepping stone for many more videogame franchises to come.

Super Mario Bros is kinda easy once you don't screw up (like I usually do). It's even funny how my own siblings could never beat this. Then again, they can never get through the first level without dying. Meh.

3. SUPER MARIO BROS. 3 (NES, SNES, GBA, WII)

Greatest......NES......Mario game.......EVER!!!!!!!

Take what made the 1st Mario great, add some new items along with the Krazy Koopa Kids and you got one hell of a phenomenal game on your hands. Gameplay is fun, challenging as hell especially the Ice, Plant and Dark World (basically the last 3). Play the game in 2P mode and go over an area of the map that Mario or Luigi to which you play the ****c Mario arcade game.

One of the biggest downfalls of playing this game on the NEs was obvious: no ability to save your position. Thank goodness for SNES remake cause this game is pretty long. Highly recommend you guys play this cause it's a lot of fun.

2. SUPER MARIO 64 (N64, DS, WII)

Ah the game that revolutionised 3D platforming. If not for grandpa (this game), people wouldn't be playing the son right now (Galaxy).

This is easily my 2nd favorite Mario game and for a lot of reasons too. At first I never saw the appeal behind this game after renting it. Thank God I bought the game along with the booklet or I'd miss out on a lot, huh?

For a game at the time it was released, the graphics were pretty damn nice. Not to mention how this game changed the landscape on how future Mario games play. Plus the mechanism of the game make me laugh at times. Cause Mario can take damage from creatures, lose health from falling in lava or ice cold water, can't last long underwater without drowning....in a 3D game, yet in his 2D ones he dies to a speck of dust. Well not a speck of dust but you get the point.

So far I've beaten this game without making it to the final 5 courses. Don't get me wrong, the game is hard the first time you play it. Now I can pretty much plow through it with ease......expect the areas that I can't remember at the moment. Oh boy. I really would like to do a playthrough of this once I can record my voice through my capture card soon. I just need to replace my sound card first, god damn.

1. SUPER MARIO WORLD (SNES, GBA, WII)

Super Mario 64 and Galaxy are great games, but none of them can touch this ****c 2D platformer for the SNES.

You've played every Mario game. You've conquered every Mario game. You know everything that there is to know about Mario. Well you better think again - I remember that commercial for this game like there is no tomorrow.

Now much like the other 2 games below it, this game is pretty long and it takes a good long time to get 100% (which I have never been able to do as a kid). It is easily my most overplayed Mario game, along with 64. Right now I can pretty much go through the game easily. Thing is, I was able to beat this game numerous times as a kid in one sitting and losing the least amount of lives as I possibly can while finding as much stuff as I could remember at the time.

The only enemies that eluded me were Torpedo Teds until I read where they were......until I realised that I should never have found them. No they're in one area and they're easy to avoid at times. Just having no knowledge of the area led to many deaths (some of them very hilarious too ).

So pretty much, many Mario games have felt a fond moment in my gaming life, but none of them can light a candle to the amount of fun that Super Mario World gave me. Which is why it will always, stay and forever will be, the No. 1 Mario game I have ever played.

Well that was a long blog, though most of you should be used to them by now. Laters.

That's a nice list I like all of them except Mario Kart Wii I haven't played that one.

Good list dude, personally I think Super Mario Bros. 3 is the greatest Mario game of all time, but that's only because I have a lot of memories of playing the game with my father as a child. Super Mario Bros. 2 I never really liked all that much, I found it more frustrating than anything else. Oh and by the way, if you beat Super Mario Galaxy with Luigi with 120 stars you get another prize.

As for the Sonic Top Ten game thing, Number One would be Sonic the Hedgehog 2, number two would be the first game and number three would be Sonic CD. Sonic Heroes and Sonic Adventure would also be up there in the top ten.

Good list. How about paying homage to the Mario game that started it all: Donkey Kong. Where would Super Mario Sunshine rank on this list? Also, how about the original Super Mario Bros.?

Great list. I loved Mario RPG for the original SNES the most, but I agree with your #1 choice. I couldn't find that last level "Soda lake" (I think that was the name) until I looked it up. Good times...

My God those bring back some memories. I love the Mario games, especially a good bit of the ones you listed. I also thought Yoshi's World and Mario Paint were awesome. Maybe not the best, but awesome none the less.

Darkknight: Be grateful that you haven't. The A.I. is cheap as hell sometimes if you're not careful.

Hurricane: Yup, Super Mario Bros. 2 can be challenging and frustrating at times. Still doesn't stop it from being good. And yeah, I'm looking forward to beating the game again with Luigi.......IF I CAN GET ALL THE STARS THOUGH. Ugh.

Sylent: Well, I never played the original Donkey Kong, Sunshine eluded me as did many GameCube titles and I've played a little bit of the original arcade version (not from the 3rd game, the legit one). It's good. Just not high enough to make my Top 10.

Crulex: Yeah it was Soda Lake and I've never really liked RPGs so game like Super Mario RPG and the Paper Mario series don't really intrigue me.

theredrobin: Mario Paint, huh? Never saw this game....at all. Seen some things on YouTube, though that doesn't look like what you're mentioning.

Great list i have fond memories from all those games. I used to hate the levels in Mario Party where you had to spin the joystick really fast. I would use the palm of my hand and it would end up taking off a little bit of skin after a couple hours. Another Mario game that I love playing is Super Mario Land 2 for the original Game Boy.
