Ok,
I see some folks have rated this game a 10 and if I did not live in a world of reality I might also but the real score should be around 8 to 8 1/2. I will try to break this into offline and online game play as that is what interest most of us...
Offline game play missions or campaign (AKA the story line): I do not know what the xbox or ps3 version was but this is centered around terrorist activity throughout the world and is very challenging. The missions are varied and challenging anything from full on shoot and kill to being a gunner on a ch46 to providing air support from a c130. I will admit that I have not completed the offline yet but from what I have done it is fun. Graphics on this game offline are pretty good better then CoD WaW but not as good as The Conduit that being said I prefer this to Tcon for story and game play. Controls for MWR are comparable with WaW with all the same layouts and some configurability ( I am using Charlie same as with WaW). The only real difference i was not happy with was the sniper scoping it will take some getting used to and playing with to get it to your personal comfort level.
Online: This in my opinion is where most hardcore FPS gammer are looking for is pretty good (ok better then good great). The fact that the game has a ton of maps and several types of games to play should keep everyone entertained and online for a long time. The new invite system is great the the addition of a 5th player is nice and the fact that TDM has 2 modes one for individuals and one that will be for friend play (basically if you have party you cannot join the mercenary play) this keeps people from getting ganged up on by clans or groups that play together all the time.
Ok now for some of the cons or perceived cons:
No wii Speak: Ok this honestly is not an issue for me, on the 2 games that I have used it on (Tcon and AC:CF) basically it didn't help and on Tcon it stunk so thats my opinion.
Lag: Yes it is still there and it can get bad but having played most wii FPS game when was it ever not an issue.
Graphics: It's a wii enough said.
Again I actually love this game and would suggest it as a must get for any wii gamer that likes FPS games...
First let me say the more the merrier as I suck using every other weapon and I am just passable sniping I salute you.
Now that being said guys (and gals) you need to have some awareness about you when playing online. I know you want to shoot every enemy (and sometime friendly) head that appears but have some courtesy to the guy that is already lined up on the shot and don't jump in front of them. In real life being a sniper entails a lot of patients and this is a fast pace body count driven game, and I know that everyone wants to increase their body count but again PLEASE...PLEASE be aware that someone else may be lining up the shot. I don't care if you get the kill I just want to be able to shoot the enemy and not my team mate.
Now I now some of you will probably say o he's complaining because he sucks (I do I have probably been a victim of several of you user name pen man). But in CTF and TDM it will help your team out a lot more if you work together (I believe that is the purpose of those games) to defend or kill.
Just my thoughts/rant
Feel free to delete and/or ignore now.
Let me start off by saying I have only been playing these games for a short while and MoH Vanguard for the Wii is my only true comparison. That being said let me begin.
I will break this review into three sections feature, single person play, and multi player.
New Features: New features, well the most noticeable for Wii players is the ability to play online (to be covered later) there is also and arcade mode that can be fun but I think the most noticeable game play features are the changes in WiiMote actions. In Vanguard there wasn't a lot of imagination in the controls basically point and shoot (especially with the bazooka) but now you will look funny to anyone not familiar with the game but it does make it fun. There is also the ability to play at 3 different levels of ability (I am on the beginner mode) and an arcade mode which I have only played once.
Single Player: These are the missions you go on similar to Vanguard, unlike Vanguard you have the arcade mode which is basically a kill em all let the insert deity of your choice here sort them out (the PC version of the saying) the game moves you forward and you have unlimited ammo so go kill kill kill. Other than that basically the premise is that you are an OSS operative assigned to an airborne unit to carry out a main mission and several side missions. The graphics (IMHO) haven't improved since Vanguard (this is a Wii game after all so graphics are not top priority) but they are still good and playable. I have cleared the first 3 levels and am working on 4 and each level has its own challenges and quirks.
Multi Player: Or as we call it online mode. This is where the game earns its nuts, and before I get any dig, dings or bullets this is a Wii game it will not compare with Xbox or PS3 so please cut me a break o it. The first feature I like is the fact this game is played on the EA servers so it is not as restrictive as the Nintendo servers may be. There are 3 basic game modes for online mode
.
- Deathmatch: as the book says everyone for them selves. This is my least favorite mode (basically because I suck at it) but it is fun just to run around and blast everyone.
- Team Deathmatch: this is a team version of Deathmatch a little easier for noobs because you have a team to work with.
- Infiltration (capture the flag): this is by far my favorite online game you are teamed with other to accomplish a mission (capture the flag).
All these games can be accessed by going to the lobby and joining in. You also have the ability to start your own game and have your friends come and play.
Overall I give the game an A for its playability and online play. I have seen on some of the boards that people have complained of lagging but in the last couple of weeks that I have played I have not noticed any.
Pros: Online play, Fast paced, Multi player
Cons: No communications (talk capability)
