Before I begin please allow me time to put on my flame proof suit because I'm probably about to commit some sort of gamer sin here and I feel like I should be prepared.

Ok... ready?

Gears of War 2 was awful. Not just awful but ****ing atrocious.

I couldn't stand it any longer so I went and exchanged it for Resident Evil 5. I just couldn't take anymore.

I wish I could put into words how bad I thought this game was.

It was so bad that I would need to create new adjectives just to scratch the surface of my disdain.

Hopefully, RE5 will be a much better game. If not then I might just give up and get a PS3... damn I want to play Uncharted 2 and Infamous SO bad.

Have any of you ever played a game that everyone else loved and you just couldn't stomach?

Hope you're doing well.

Take care and happy gaming.

gears of war 2 single campaign is alright, maybe a 7-7.5... but the freaking MP is awful.
I'm with you on this one bro

Yep. A whole genre, practically speaking. JRPGs. Oh, and sports.
Posted Oct 11, 2009 5:12 pm PT
Yea I've had a game or two like that, or games that everyone thought was bad but I thought was pretty awesome.

I hate sports games. I didn't really like Gears 1 all that much.

I agree with you 100% on Gears 2. Singleplayer was really disappointing and multiplayer was a poorly designed, unbalanced mess. Such a shame since the first Gears was so great. As for another game that everyone else loved which I despised, the first one I can think of is LittleBigPlanet. It seems like the main draw of that game was customization, and the cuteness of the Sackpeople (or whatever they're called). Customization and cute characters aren't exactly original concepts, so once you get passed that the game is pretty much nothing. Anyway, sorry for the rant, have fun with RE5, I thought it was pretty good.

Yes: everything Halo I consider highly overrated (here, let me take some fire for you). I found it derivative, boring, repetitive, and with such awful sound engineering I couldn't understand the narrative. Thank goodness for trade-ins. I feel for you. Nothing worse than looking forward to a big, hyped game, and discovering that it sucks. Hope RE5 works out better for you.

Really? Any specifics? Regarding your question though, I can't stand anything Call of Duty related. I think just about every single one of those games has sucked. I no longer even care to try the new ones or believe any of the hype.

Isn't personal taste a wonderful thing?

@ beutlich99

I've thought about it for a while and I can't quite pin it down to one specific item but here's a short list.

1. The Story - I don't know enough about these characters to care about them. Seriously, we're looking for one of the squad's wives? Boring.

2. The controls - The aspects that were added that weren't in the first game were terrible. The driving controls and all the twitch game play moments in a game that's supposed to be about cover and patience.

3. The controls - The duck/dive animations are all the same and you can really only do them in 90 degree increments relative to your body. There were plenty of time when I was trying to take cover and i would end up rolling all over the place.

I actually enjoyed Gears 1 and thought the second one would be a lot better... but boy, I was wrong.

To answer your question. I like X-Com Apocalypse, I just play it turn based instead of real time.

My friend takes the cake. He likes Master of Orion 3. (P.U.)

While I'm biting my tongue to keep from lashing out at the Halo and CoD naysayers, I have some equally large blasphemies hiding up my sleeve: I can't stand Starcraft. I played for a month or so back in middle school, but to me it's just too click-festy, too cartoony, and the degree to which people worship it sickens me. Woooo, your factions are incredibly balanced. Woooo. Is that all you got? Actually, that goes for pretty much every Blizzard game...Come to think of it Diablo is the only Blizzard franchise I've ever liked.

@chikahiro94
I would have to agree with you on JRPGs, at least the blockbuster ones. I like precisely 2 JRPG franchises (unless you're counting Pokemon), Golden Sun and Fire Emblem, and both of them are for handhelds. Maybe that's where that genre belongs.

Yes! I couldn't stand MGS IV. Still, every time I'm in a conversation about it, it gets me worked up so I'll stop there.

I pretty much kinda felt almost the same way about that game. Good luck with RE5.

Did you ever read my review of KillZone 2? Talk about a game that EVERYBODY loved, and I hated. WOW..

To each his own. Honestly, I have a hard time getting interested in the Grand Theft Auto series. Not that I think they're bad games, I just can't stay interested so I don't play them.

Oh, and Bioshock. Heard so much of the "best shooter ever" thing and it's cool but I guess it just doesn't grab me as being so revolutionary.

@ Gen_Warbuff

I actually did read it and it was one of the main things that made me go out and write this little blurb.

@ bowlingotter

Don't even get me started on Bioshock.

I actually felt that way about Gears 1 but by the time 2 came along I strangely grew accustomed to the flaws and it also helps that I played through the game with a friend, a different experience. I still think to some degree that it's an over-rated franchise though.

I enjoyed GOW2 I mean the multiplayer when it first came out was god awful but they patched it up by now the only saving grace was horde mode...also RE5!!??! noo why that game its worse no horrible I hated it (and I am a big RE guy) also infamous is a tad overly hyped don't get your hopes up too high and uncharted is a pretty gears of war clone

Well not so much I couldn't stomach but I just didn't know why everyone seemed to love GTA IV and it got 10s and high 9s and I honestly thought it was very disappointing, as the mission variety was pretty poor and the story was decent at best. Also, Assassin's Creed is one I thought was pretty mediocre yet everyone I know seemed to like it and again it was because of the mission variety and that it just got boring after the first several assassinations since the cities looked the same pretty much.

Gears 2 was an utter disappointment for me. One thing can sum up my entire relationship with that game and it's that final boss battle, which was a TOTAL waste of time. The multiplayer was horrible and that just ruined the entire experience for me.

I thought the first Gears was better as well. Could you do me a favor and explain "twitch" gameplay moments?
Posted Oct 14, 2009 7:23 pm PT
@ beutlich99

Perhaps "twitch" might not be the right word. Let me see if I can elaborate... like you, I liked the first one but I'm sure one of the knocks against was that most of the levels were exactly the same. I liked the slower, take cover and pick your shots process of the first game.

In the second one it seemed like all these moments that were thrown in there just to switch it up... the level riding the people mover, the boat level etc. The part at the end of the boat level where the monster swallows you and you have to quickly shoot all the glowing tenticles just seemed like they were thrown in to switch things up and I felt like they took away from the things that made the first game great.
