Some Big News

So, after a year of living in Charleston and trying to find a bigger place my girlfriend and I finally did!

We will be moving from out tiny two bedroom, one bathroom apartment in a shadier part of town to a huge three bedroom two and half bathroom single family home in a much nicer and younger part of town!

For those of you who have moved you know how stressful finding a new place can be especially when you have so many things to consider (schools, neighborhood, distance to work, etc) and we are finally finished with all of it! We will begin moving on the 27th of this month with us going to complete and total settlement on Oct 1!

Needless to say we are so thrilled and relieved... it just sucks now because we have to start packing and actually moving out stuff but in the end it will all be worth it.

Hopefully in the next few days I'll be posting pics of our new place so you guys can see it.

Some Gaming News As Well

I finally finished Shadow Complex last night and I still hold the position that it is a shoe-in for downloadable game of the year.

I finished with somewhere around 70% (ETW is my hero since he got 100% of the items) of the items from the game with the majority of the ones I missed being due to items that could only be accessed by hitting the top running speed and busting through stuff. I never quite could figure out the controls that allow you to flip onto roofs to maintain momentum so I decided the hell with it and to just finish the game.

In case you haven't played it by now or have been living under a rock these last couple of weeks, I cannot recommend Shadow Complex enough. For you older gamers, its a modern update of old school Castlevania and Metroid titles. And like Jim Rome says, "If you have a problem with those two games... you have a problem with yourself."

The only downside that I saw with the game is the boss battles are kinda lame. They're too easy and the actual bosses don't have that much character. They're basically like fighting huge versions of ED-209 over and over again and the final boss battle was totally weak!

Other than that the game is great. Go play it if you already haven't.

With our move coming in such short order we were unable to purchase Beatles: Rock Band but I assure you as soon as we are no longer broke as a joke the game will be coming home... unless we decide to wait until around Xmas and buy the limited edition bundle on the cheap so I can get the Paul McCartney bass. Only time will tell, I guess.

I hope everyone's doing ok out there and enjoying what you're playing. I'll try to be more active in the coming weeks than I have in the past few but it will probably be a little while before you are subjected to reading my pointless musings with any kind of regularity. Once we're in the new house things will get back to normal... and that's not a promise, that's a threat.

Take care and happy gaming.

Congrats on the new place! Amazing that you have been down there a year already.

Great news! I remember my wife (then-gf) and I had the tiniest little place with a 13" tv and not much else. It's a good thing we were in love, or we would've been beyond miserable.

Shadow Complex sounds pretty cool, I just have to fix that lack of funds thing going on right now. Bummer.

wow thats awesome good luck shadow complex is a great game my only complaint though when compared to metroid and castlevania (because u have to compare it to them) the game just wasn't long enough but it is one of the best games on the XBLA right now

That's great news about finding a new place to live man. I know you've been working really hard for it. Glad to hear it's paying off.

Getting 100% on Shadow Complex was a lot easier once I figured out two things. One, stay away from the room that triggers the "run for your life" cutscene. I couldn't figure out how to get a couple of items after that as the path had been blocked off. Two, if you start a new game, the levels you've gained carry over. This is important because at level twenty, the entire map unlocks, and shows you where every item is. But yeah, I completely agree: Downloadable GOTY easily.

Congrats on the new place. We just finished that process ourselves and we're moving this weekend. Right now we are living in the perpetual mess of packing and I hope I don't lose it! Where did you move from and to? I love the Summerville area, but some of the older homes there can be pricey. My younger bro lived in Goose Creek for a while when he was in the air force a few years ago. If you go back near Monks Corner, it's not as scary as much of Goose Creek is.

@ yeah_write

We currently live in a shady part of North Charleston and will be moving to the Park Circle neighborhood which is closer to downtown but still with a North Charleston address... I think. It's a nicer, younger neighborhood with a real nice "old town" section. Plus we're both closer to work which is always nice.

I like Shadow Complex but I'm realizing the game structure is kind of frustrating for me as I have a horrible sense of direction, getting lost easily. I'm finding more linear games are working out better for me (like Gears2). Which is a little annoying to me - hurts the pride, you know? :p
