No, this isn't a New Year's blog.

I got Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World for Christmas and, honestly, it was a rather disappointing sequel. It lacked the depth of the original, a likable cast (from the new characters anyway), the combat system wasn't as good as the previous games, and the monster recruitment system was rather pointless. But you can just read all that in my review!

Yeah...I heard people didn't like this one as much. That's really a shame given the fact that you guys seemed to enjoy the first one a lot. Anyway, Happy New Year. Hope 2009's gaming will be even better than 2008's.

Until Namco Bandai pull their fingers out when it comes to recognising Europe as a region who plays games I shall probably never play a Tales title. Still, recommended!

I'll have to play a "tales of" game eventually

It sucks when sequels disappoint, but aside from that I can't really comment as I've never experienced said prequel. I do have experience with X-2 however. That was...a very depressing moment in life...

After reading your review, I've decided if I ever get a Wii, I'm never getting Dawn of a New World.

Recommended.

A mediocre sequel to a lacklustre game deserves a blog all by itself? Still, a great review that is recommended.

Happy New Year!

I got it for Christmas also but haven't started it yet.. I was hoping for more depth than what you mentioned... will probably still enjoy it. I do like Tales games in general but is too bad they couldn't have done more with the sequel.

I haven't played the previous installment, so I will not pick this one up.

It's always disappointing when sequels don't live up to people's hopes

Jay: At first I didn't really mind it, but as I got to playing it more....the flaws started coming out more and more. It wasn't god awful, but no where near the awesomeness of the original, or Abyss even.

WW: Yes, it is a shame....Tales Studio rather flunked with this one, which hurts all us Symphonia fans. Michelle: Haha, true. Europe hasn't gotten Symphonia or almost any Tales of games. Way to distribute your products Namco.

Dimitrius: Yes! You must! At least play Symphonia (the first one) and Abyss!

Anne: I liked X-2.... But when a sequel doesn't deliver with a good story or characters...yes, it is sad.

Tommy: Good job, sir! But have you played the first Symphonia yet?

Jude: Wait...you didn't just call the first Symphonia lackluster did you!? Death to the heathen! Naruto: Happy New Years!

Teresa: Yeah, I was so excited when I got this for Christmas and I didn't really want to believe the reviews for it at first. But after playing it for a bit....I saw the flaws coming out and the distinct difference in the fun factor between it and the original.

Dan: But you should play the original, as it is actually fun and interesting.

ugh i still havent played one tales game......happy new year..

That sucks it's disappointing. You should go play Tales of the Abyss again and complete everything in that game to make you feel better.

I've played about 6 hours of it (it bored me too much ) and I'm not too impressed. I'm also not really disappointed because I kept my expectations low....but I'd rather be impressed than not disappointed when I have low expectations for a game.

Sorry it turned out to be a disappointment. I am having a good time with Tales of Vesperia

Too bad the sequel was disappointing. I still haven't played the first one, I will someday...hopefully.

Tri: Not another one! The Tales series seems to get overlooked quite a bit. They're pretty fun RPGs, thanks to the combat mostly. Happy New Year.

Chaney: But...I've done everything in ToA already and I've played through it 3 or 4 times.

Angela: I don't really blame you for getting bored. The combat just didn't seem all the way there in this game. The combat was part of what made the original so much fun.

Dave: I'd like to try out ToV someday. That will be a bit of a ways off though.

Anthony: You WILL play Symphonia in the near future! You WILL!

I already recommended this in the Temple.

Seriously, they should have just brought back the original cast and made a proper sequel for the PS2, X360, or PS3.
