Aye, reviewed Soul Calibur 4 I did. Ovearll, I didn't like this one as much as the other entries. This is another series that, I feel, is goign downhill as it goes along. The core gameplay was still fun, it's also pretty, but what about the SINGLE PLAYER?!?!?!? ![]()

I guess they didn't notice any changes, so they didn't talk about it too much.

Nice review Kris. *recommended* Sounds like something I'll be avoiding.
I was never a big fan of the series. Solid games, but I'd need something new and enticing to pick this one up. Sounds like not too much has changed. Too bad. Although the character creation system is something I'd probably enjoy.

well that is a little disappointing.

Cam: Gain a lev...no, I won't go there.
Dan: Guess so.
Anthony: Ya, I'd pick either 2 or 3 over this one for sure. I mean, Vader is cool and all, but everything else....
Nate: Yes, I was a bit disappointed with SCIV too. It just doesn't have the lasting appeal to me that the others did.

I would get it for online versus purposes only, I never care much for story where fighting games are involved.

As a newbie to the series I've actually really really enjoyed it, but you've got a more well-rounded opinion being a veteran

I checked out the endings on GT and i was like.. whaaaa???

Sounds like they pretty much killed the single player experience. I realize that's not really the big selling point for a fighting game, but still, they should have at least made it look like they'd made an effort to put a decent one in.

Decent review Kris. *thumbs up* Shame Soul Calibur has got worse over the years. I had high-hopes for the series after it appeared on the Dreamcast.

Not my sort of thing so I wouldn't know whether it was good or bad ^^; Haha.

Not a fighting game fan but a great review - recommended!

L: Yeah, if you like mulitplayer, then SCIV would be the better one for you.
Anne: Bloody Noobie....
Maz: Exactly!
Randy: Yup, it just felt like single player was kinda forgotten about in the developing process.
Ron: SC2 is the best one I've played (haven't played the original), but it does just feel like the series is getting worse as it goes.
LB: Hehe, I know you're not big into fighters.
I'm not either really, just SC and SSB.
Dave: I know Dylan is loving this game at the moment, right?

I loved SC2... SC3 wasn't that fun. :S My big bro's coming over and will probably bring his PS3, I'll probably rent it if we're not too busy playing MSG4
BTW, I love your Tear avatar

Yea, that is most unfortunate, but recently I decided I wants a next gen Soul Calibur, so I might be getting this one when it gets cheap. That would be a ways off though.

hmm.......ive heard good thongs.....different things for different people i suppose......

I have to say that I agree wholeheartedly with your review Kris. I think the only thing missing is a mention about just how (unintentionally) amusing the voice overs at the beginning of the battle are.
By the way, I'd definitely recommend tracking down the original Soul Blade on the PS if you can: The Edge Master mode is the highlight of the series in my opinion.

Tom: SC2 is my favorite of the series (though again, I have yet to play the original). Thanks, Tear is awwwwsome! xD
Jeff: Yeah, if you do get this game, get it for cheap. Like $20-$30 or something, since that is what it's worth, imo anyway.
Tri: I noticed most of the user reviews were mixed. Some loved it, some didn't, and others were in between. This one seems to be the most conflicted of the series.
Jake: The voice overs that try to sound dramatic and end up sounding corny?
Is Edge Master mode like Weapon Master from SC2? Michelle:

HEY i read your review...... and although u make some good points. i think your review missed a few points. one point i should state first is that..... yes the story mode is short..... but then again this is NOT an RPG... these characters don't exactly have much going for them. nor did they in ANY of the previous ones... big bad sword, must find it. I think the story mode was actually fairly well done... (though maybe 3 to 5 more levels would have been more fun.. it would have just been the same stuff over and over again anyways) they shot u in directly and introduced you to the characters. climbing and decending the tower is something u should try as it is closer to the sc2 weapon master mode ^__^... even though it is horrendously difficult. I would actually say this one is on par if not slightly more fun than sc2 because of the character creation. though infinitely better than sc3 which was just cr@p
fighting games are just what they are...fighting games.....
and yah star wars doesn't "fit". but its not like these games are all that realistic to begin with........ u cut some one or stab some one.... and they will die no less than a cut from a light sabre (its just easier) btw u play ps3 or xbox ??? ^__^

Yeah, SC4 is lacking a lot of the modes that made the series great, like the Tales of the Sword mode which was a lot of fun. It feels like its just "Soul Calibur: Online" rather than a true sequel.
The online matches are fun though, specially for gamers like me that dont have a lot of other gamer friends. I'm already rank 11 with 33 wins

N44: I actually liked 3 over 4, which seems weird.
2 is my overall favorite though.
Star: I just felt they could've put more effort into the story mode. It seemed even more lacking than 3's story mode. I know it isn't an RPG, but I'm not a big fan of online for consoles, and single player is something I live off of in whatever fighting game I play. 4 just didn't hold my attention in that aspect at all.
JOJO: Soul Calibur Online is perfect name for it!
I think that matches what Namco put most of their time into on this installation of the series.
