UPSTAIRS AND AROUND THE CORNER
Shoes at the door, feet on the floor
Sat in his chair, curls in her hair
Silent curiosity, she stares at the rail
Eyes move to him, he's anything but frail
Standing up, the dizziness appears.
From the life of her mind-set
To the death that she hears
The dress that outlines her face,
Flowing with satin and lace
Such a pretty thing to waste on the blood of her surpasser
Yet she doesn't realize and creeps even faster
Feet meet the stairs now
Her tiny fingers they curl
Up-around the stair rail
Eyes dull like a pearl
One step, then another,
Elevation is blind
The ribbons she neglects
As they spin and unwind
But she feels he might be watching
She questions his presence
And with that her slow stepping
Turns into quick accents
Once she reaches the top
She looks back, down the staircase
He is no where in sight
And she resumes her slow pace
Down the hall, past the window
The bedroom, the light
To the end where the evidence
Is no where in sight
But there's a door on the end,
A passageway to the attic
She was told not to enter
The thought of this made her frantic
With fear for her life she opens the door
There's ropes and blankets, red stains on the floor
Walking to the end, around the bend of thin dress,
Lays her mother, motionless, in the thick violent mess
"Every night the whisper of torture sad song
A slash and fall for every time she was wrong"
The daughter repeats these words in her head
As she lays beside her mother and keeper, now dead
It goes silent again as she cries herself to death
"Sweet father Sweet father, may you seek your last breath."
