God. When people see or hear this nowadays they probably think of a new game website with "games on demand" before they think of an omnipotent being who put every human on this planet because we are his beloved children. Quite frankly in our society most people have forgotten about God, just as he has forgotten about us, his "beloved children". Though there are many who will say that God "has a plan" and God "works in mysterious ways", but these are just the sayings of people who are afraid that their meaningless lives on this floating ball of dirt does not mean anything and is not part of some great plan made by a loving creator. Mysterious ways, and a great plan, well let me tell you a little something about God's "mysterious ways". Within a 3 month period I had two friends tragically end their own lives. And I’m not talking about an overdose of pain killers here. Let's just say that shotguns make for closed casket funerals. You may say this is all part of God's plan, and that it just him working in mysterious ways. But here is where your argument fails (and I'm mainly talking to the Christians here). If it's a mortal sin to kill oneself and it entails an eternity in hell then why does God allow for it to happen? I do not have children yet, but I don't think that I would want them to burn in a fiery pit for all of eternity just because they made a mistake, no matter how big it is. But you will say it is part of God's plan. Sounds like a hell of a plan to me, maybe that one needs to be rethought for a minute. And what about those people who are raped and tortured, murdered and starving, how exactly does that fit into God's plan? You find me one parent out there who would allow for their beloved child to be tortured and then killed as part of some plan of theirs and I will say that God has a great plan.
But do you want to know the truth? God does have a plan, and it can be summed up in one word. Survival. God created this planet gave the primordial ooze a little kick start with lightning and then sat back. He wanted to see just what would come of this little science experiment. And whether or not he intended for humans to evolve when he did this is a question I will leave for someone else to answer, but regardless, human beings did evolve. These amazing creatures with the ability to reason, who would, in time, rule the planet with an iron fist and no regard for the lives of earth's many other species. From the ape-like creatures, to the guy who fixes your computer when your porn websites have given you too many pop-ups, humans are a remarkable thing. And you know why? Not because of their ability to reason, or dominate other species. It is because of their ability to survive. From the days of hunter-gatherer societies who managed to hunt and kill animals many times larger than themselves, to modern day people who tetter on the brink of the ultimate destruction and probable death of the planet as we know it humans have barely changed. The only difference would be current day man's ability to ignore what is going on around him and find comfort in his new HDTV or his new computer not realizing that with the push of a button a dozen countries could end the world as we know it. But yet we still manage to survive. And one day we will either destroy ourselves, the way we have destroyed so much else, or God will say "That's enough. You humans have proven to me that you are very strong and that you can survive under many different circumstances. The thing you call life was just a test. A test of whether or not you could survive. And against all odds you have succeeded." Now what happens next I do not know. Maybe we will all be put into Eden, a paradise where the word survival will loose all meaning. Or maybe he will start the whole process over again, to see if it was just a fluke that humans made it. He may even create a whole other creature to see which fulfills his tasks better. I am in no position to guess what will happen, but those seem to be a few possibilities. But regardless of what will happen in the future, all we can do for now is the same thing we have always done. Beat the odds and keep on living, with God's eye watching to see what becomes of his "Great Plan".

"the Lord receiveth them up unto himself, in glory; and he doth suffer that they may do this thing, or that the people may do this thing unto them, according to the hardness of their hearts, that the judgments which he shall exercise upon them in his wrath may be just; and the blood of the innocent shall stand as a witness against them, yea, and cry mightily against them at the last day."
