A little longer than I had hoped to go without updating.
I'm currently working at Pretium Packaging. It sucks but there is not much else out there right now, and at least the people there seem to get along with me. I basically just inspect and pack plastic bottles from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday for $8.00 an hour.
We had a yard sale about two weeks ago and I ended up selling about 60 DVDs plus some other stuff. The DVDs that didn't sell were traded in at FYE for store credit. I expected to get a lousy deal but was greatly surprised by what I received. I got enough store credit to buy Ratchet and Clanket (PS3), Uncharted (PS3), and The Shining (Blu-ray) plus shipping from FYE.com and still have $4.00 left over. So yeah, I don't think we will be having anymore yard sales.
I should also mention that I bought a 80GB PS3 Metal Gear Solid bundle off of ebay. After hearing all the great things about MGS 4 and how cinematic it is, I decided to finally get a PS3. I saw the bundle at our local Wal-Mart the day before the yard sale but didn't know if I wanted the 80GB or a 40GB bundle that Blockbuster had. At the time I didn't know that the 80GB played PS2 games and came with a Dualshock 3 and the 40GB didn't. I went out that next Tuesday to buy it after realizing what a great value it was, but there wasn't anymore available. I looked EVERYWHERE online and checked almost every store in Davenport and Moline and every single place was sold out. I spent way too much time constantly looking for one online and in stores and was not getting much else done. I finally decided to break down and buy it off ebay. After losing several auctions to snipers, I finally won one at what seemed like a reasonable price to me. I haven't received the PS3 yet but I am told it should be here early this week. I have never used ebay before but my mad desire to have this bundle forced me to try it out. Hopefully it all works out great.
I watched The Happening in theaters and thought it was better than Lady in the Water but still not as good as the other movies by Shyamalan. I did like the idea of plants striking back at humans for all the harm that they have done to the Earth but it is an idea that would seem to work better as a written story and not a film. The deaths were pretty creative and nicely gruesome. Many parts were quite humorous intentionally and unintentionally. Some plot points were still too convenient and overly explained instead of shown. It shows Shyamalan is starting to get back on track but that he needs to really step it up for his next film.
I hope to see Wall-E on the 4th of July since I wont be working that day. Hopefully it will be better than Cars and Ratatouille.
During my time of being unemployed I cleaned out my sister's room and painted the walls and trim and gave the carpet a good cleaning. It looked so good that I decided to switch rooms with her. My parents got me a new Queen sized bed when I changed rooms which is great considering that I was sleeping on a Twin bed that was too small for me.
My sister is still down in Florida working at Disney World so I am still driving her car while she is gone. I really want to get a new car soon but it will probably be late August to the middle of September before I do that.
I can't wait for Diablo III. I never thought there would be a sequel so I am excited to finally see one. I played Diablo II A LOT when I was in high school. I would go buy it again if I didn't have so many console games to play. It probably wont be out for at least a year so I've got time to get in some Diablo II before III comes out an sucks up more of my time.
Not much else has been happening. I plan to update when I get my PS3 and have played some MGS 4. Who knows though, I might not update for another three months.
Well, I quit my job at FRP. Gave them two weeks notice first. I didn't like the hours or most of the people anymore. I hit the ceiling and the ceiling wasn't good enough. By that, I mean that I was never going to get a higher wage or a better position. It just felt like the right time to quit. I also wanted to do it so that I would force myself to look for a new/better job which for me would be harder to do if I still had one. I went on a Disney vacation the next day.
Disney was great as usual. My sister is working there this year as part of their Disney college program. It seems like a really good deal and she is definitely enjoying it. We rented a car for three days this time and so we were able to see some different things. We went to the Florida Mall one day. It was nice and large. It had two Gamestops in it. Also did some shopping at a Publix grocery store which was nice. They had a nice selection of things that I haven't seen around here before.
Another day, we went to Seaworld. I got to ride Kraken and Journey to Atlantis. Kraken was a great floorless rollercoaster that had 7 inversions. Journey to Atlantis was a watercoaster which was a new experience for me. I had seen them in Rollercoaster Tycoon but never in real life. It was fun but a little too tame. The lines weren't bad at all either.
The last day with the rental car, we drove down to Clearwater Beach. The GPS took us the long way there, but we did see some orange groves along the way which made it all worth it. The beach itself was nice. The water really is nice and clear for quite a ways out. It wasn't terribly busy there either so we weren't crowded. The beach truly is a relaxing place. On the way to the car we stopped at a great restaurant, Post Corner Pizza & Restaurant. The waitress was amazing and the Greek food there was the best I have ever tasted.
Disney tweaked several of there rides and shows so they weren't all the same as last year. The weather was around 85-90 degrees everyday. It never really rained until the last day and when it did, it poured. A great trip overall. It was a bit weird coming back and driving myself around town in a car. Down there, the Disney buses take you everywhere and my dad drove the rental car so I never really thought about speed limits or stoplights.
So for now I'm just staying home and relaxing. I've been sleeping until about 9:30 every day which is nice compared to getting up at 3:00 a.m. like I had to when I was working. I've been watching a lot of movies lately too which is something I had a hard time doing when I was working. I plan on just taking a break for all of April and looking for a job as soon as May hits. I've got a plan in my head for what would be nice to happen in the next six months but It is too early to say much more about it.
Well, I"m off to enjoy some chips and salsa. Go rent There Will Be Blood if you haven't seen it yet.
Well, it's been a ridiculously long time since I last updated. Can't begin to cover everything that has happened. I'm still working at FRP and am now making 9.50 an hour. My Monte Carlo is giving me trouble and will require a nice amount of work to get it running right again. I'm thinking about getting a new car but want to wait a little in hopes that there will be some good deals. Also not sure what car I want. I have so many I'm considering. Plus, I'm not sure if I will be working at FRP much longer.
I've been watching a lot of TV since I split my cable internet connection so I could watch TV in my room. The Office (American version), Breaking Bad, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, 10 Items or Less, Namaste Yoga, and several others are becoming regular programming. Still haven't caught up with all the movies I bought a while back. Haven't really been trying either. Video games have been more interesting to me lately. I bought Rock Band on Black Friday which was the one year anniversary of when I first bought my 360. Never played rhythm games before that and thought I would suck at them but it's been great so far. Cleared guitar on easy and medium. Loving the weekly downloads on the marketplace too.
I saw No Country for Old Men three times while it was in theaters. Excellent movie with terrific acting all around. It is out on DVD and BD March 11th if you haven't see it yet. There Will Be Blood was also excellent. Terrific score and great acting from Daniel Day-Lewis. I was a little worried that the film would disappoint considering how great the trailer was but it turned out just fine.
Haven't watched an On the Spot or listened to a HotSpot since Jeff Gerstmann was fired. I have been checking his blog, http://blog.jeffgerstmann.net/, regularly though. He still does great video blogs and just started a new podcast with recent departee Ryan Davis.
Well, I'm off to clean my room and hopefully get in some episodes of 24.
