If there's something that's wonderfully entertaining for me, it's watching a flame war. Go to any main forum, anywhere and you'll find it. The anonimity of the internet it's so easy for people to shout and say things they'd never say to anyone's face right?
For a while I had been reading the TV Tropes site under various subjects and one section titled "Internet Backdraft" talks about how you can start flame wars so if you're in the mood to watch the fur fly may I suggest going to any main (not union) forums and suggest the following.
First and foremost the Gamespot greatest heroes contest is down to the final four which consists of Mario vs. Samus and Link vs. Gordon Freeman and Mario has a strong lead over Samus, but go get into a post regarding Link and Gordon. The Nintendo haters (consisting of jaded Master Cheif, Lara Croft, Snake, etc. fans) are fighting to make sure the final fight does NOT come down to two Nintendo characters. After all Nintendo is the horrid anti-Christ this generation and sneaking into our homes and raping our girlfriends and killing our parents, right?
Say anything nice about a 3D Sonic game made after the Dreamcast and you will be told you have no taste in good games or if you still like Sonic now and you're over the age of 12 then you must be a furry and you're not allowed to even remotely like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Next Gen because those are horrid garbage. Generally to be safe don't mention Sonic at all unless it's either in the Genesis nostalgia way, related to SSBB or to be the butt of jokes.
If you really want to have fun, go to any Sonic related forum and say you like Jason Griffith as the voice of Sonic as well as like the 4Kids actors who voice them now. A good time to be had by all.
Metacritic scores are the word of God. Critics are all wise and all knowing and are never wrong. You are not allowed to enjoy any game that didn't at least get a metacric score of at least 80% especially if it's a non-Nintendo Wii game. For the love of God don't say anything remotely positive about anything that has been cla$$ified as "shovelware" by the invisible game pigeon-hole committee. I knew a poor soul who made the fateful mistake of saying he liked The Price is Right game for the Wii and was never heard from again.
Don't dare try to say anything remotely nice about Wii Music on any forum. No one is allowed to like that game at all. It represents all that is wrong and evil in games today and if you buy it, the world will come to an end.
Never say that Super Smash Bros. Brawl was better than Melee as well as flame wars regarding SSBB can be started by asking any of the following:
- Should items be used in tournaments as well as certain stages?
- Are Falco, Wolf, Lucas, and Toon Link clones? And don't dare accuse Melee's Luigi of being a clone. Hell hath no fury like Luigi fans. (IGN made that mistake once.)
- Suggest that for the next Smash Bros. they make it fully 3D like Powerstone. (I did that once.)
- Admit that you play SSBB with something that isn't a Gamecube controller.
Samus vs. Master Cheif. GO! And as an added bonus, include a link to the Haloid movie to really get fans riled up.
If you like Wind Waker, you're not allowed to like Twilight Princess and vice versa and don't dare suggest one of those is better than Ocarina of Time.
A while back a couple of friends and I hatched a scheme to go onto a PS3 forum and start a rumor about Kingdom Hearts III being exclusive to the Wii just to see the screaming and yelling that would follow by those who said they bought a PS3 just for KHIII which, mind you hasn't even been announced yet because in the minds of many fans, Square has always been exclusive to Sony and Final Fantasy didn't exist before #7 and Crystal Chronciles and all the Square games on the GBA and DS don't count, but of course Cloud should be in Smash Bros. (hypocracy much?)
Oh and there is that little thing of FFXIII being on the 360 now. Go bring that up on a PS3 forum.
Or say that you like the change of FF's battle system in Final Fantasy XII. (for those outside FF circles, they swapped the turn based combat for a more westernized system. Cue angry fanboy ranting)
Did you like Haze? Well now you've done it. Master Cheif is coming to your house personally to kill you because you're a wussy PS3 loving scum bag. The same applies to The Conduit on the Wii.
So hopefully these wonderful suggestions have inspired some of you to start your own flame war and feel free to add your own suggestions on how to start a flame war.
Thank you and remember: lighten up people.

And The Beatles and Radiohead are usually pretty good bets outside of gaming.
And George Orwell!
No, then they would like Nintendo, because that is so hardcore.
I got a few myself
Never utter the sentence "I like Navi" or "Navi is better than Midna" at an anti Navi union
Never say wesker is overated at a Resident Evil union, They'll burn you alive
Never mention that Kefka (FF:VI antagonist) is better than Sephiroth, nor any other main antagonist, there not even worthy to be next to the all powerfull mama's boy who failed TWICE at destroying the world
BTW, you forgot "never, ever, specially if you like your limbs as they are now, dare to make a compliment about the new guitar hero's setlist". it's really scary.
Voila, you have a flame war!
Marvelous! Just marvelous!
Actually, nowadays the easiest way to start a flame war is simply saying that you enjoy your Wii. Honestly, people can't accept that somebody else is having fun with a Wii. What a bunch of puritans! I like my Wii ! Wanna fight about it!?
Here is an interesting article about Wii Music:

That should be enough to start a flame war right here!
Peace
