Well last night I attened the launch of RUSH Season 2 which was helf at Kit & Kaboodle in Sydney's Kings Cross. The Australian media were out drinking beautiful cocktails as they awaited the arrival of the RUSH cast. I've had a bad back so no alcoholic beverages for me! Plus I was more focused on getting my interviews with the cast in the 40 minutes I had before the speeches and band started!
The newest addition the the RUSH cast, Jolene Anderson was first and she was quite delightful talking about her change from Channel Seven to Network TEN. From my experience with both networks I would imagine that they are very different to work for whether you are in front of the camera, behind the camera or in the office. Jolene indulged me a little in the differences between the networks but she obviously has to be a little careful. She also spoke about the move from a medical drama being All Saints to an action packed police thriller such as RUSH.
Next I spoke to the very very tiny and beautiful Catherine McClements! My god she is TINY!!! You have no idea.. I know people on TV are normally small but she really was so petite and absolutley gorgeous. She told me about what we can expect from her character Kerry Vincent in Season 2.
Finally it was time to have a quick chat with one of my absolute favourites - Callan Mulvey! Talk about an absolutely gorgeous guy. I adore Cal - so down to earth and just a delight to talk to. Australia still probably remember him most from his role as hot Drazic in Heartbreak High.
Josef Ber who plays Dominic Wales was definitely the hardest to get any insight from. He didn't want to give much away of what we can expect from Season 2 which made for quite a hard interview considering we were there for discuss season 2.
The final interview was with Roger Corser. He was actually very funny and on form which I loved. He told me that there's love in store for Lawson this season and gave TV.com an exclusive that his beautiful on screen lady is Australian actress Asher Keddie. If you were a Love My Way fan she played Julia Jackson. I'm really looking forward to her return to our screens!
The biggest disappointment of the evening was the no show from Samuel Johnson.. he's by far the funniest character on the show and I have wanted to talk to him for a long long time. I'm going to make it a priority to sit down and chat to him before the end of the year!
We also got some great photos which we are currently uploading to the RUSH photo gallery - here is my personal favourite though
I'm busy working with our editor to get the video interviews up on the site so stay tuned as they will be up soon.
I'm now off to interview the new designers for Project Runway and then tomorrow will be meeting the final two girls in Australia's Next Top Model. If you're a fan let me know what you'd like me to ask Tahnee or Cassi! Lets get Clare back!!
In 1996 Michael Jackson was in Australia for his History tour. I was in year 10 at the time and was just about to start my end of year exams. Mum had bought tickets to the concert for my sister and I and my first exam was the next morning. Even then I remember thinking 'seeing Michael Jackson is far more important than my English exam, it'll stay with me forever'. We had tickets to see the show on the Monday night but it was Friday afternoon when mum picked my sister and I up from school that was the highlight for us of Michael's visit to Perth.
We were all in the car driving down Scarborough Beach Road when mum started to turn into our street. I saw this man and an entourage of bodyguards getting out of a Tourago across the street and walking towards the video store. Michael was hard to miss as he had his white mask covering his nose and mouth. I screamed to mum to stop the car and my sister and I ran over the road. We just could not believe that there was MJ in Video Ezy walking around. His body guard encouraged us to go in and talk to him.
I've never ever been afraid to go up to anyone so I went straight up to him and introduced myself informing him that we were going to see his concert on Monday. Michael was so softly spoken and grabbed my hand and said he was so happy we were going to see him. My sister Lucy and I didn't have our shoes on, it was Summer in Perth and shoes werea hinderance but Michael just couldn't believe we were bare foot. He kept asking us where our shoes were. I aksed him for his signature and then Lucy and I realised that the video store was now starting to become incredibly crowded with word getting out that MJ was in Video Ezy.
All of a sudden poor Michael was cornered against the shelves of videos with about 40 people asking him for his autograph and wanting to see and talk to him. I remember going from a feeling of elation at seeing him to a sadness that he couldn't ever escape that level of attention even when going to select some movies. His body guards ended up kicking everyone out and Video Ezy closed their doors so that Michael could browse in peace. We watched through the window for a while, my heart still pounding not quite being able to come to terms with the fact one of the biggest stars in the world was in my local video store picking up all the VHS tapes he could see. There were 100's! I hadn't ever seen anything like it before.
On the Monday, we went to see Michael perform - it was utterly incredible. At one point he was flying across the crowd as he sung and there was not a dry eye around it was just so overwhelming. I've never been one to well up in tears at a concert but the atmosphere was so electric and mind blowing it was hard not to shed a tear in the utter amazement that was Michael Jackson the Performer.
He will most definitley be missed.
Well it's been quite the week in Sydney. On Monday night I attended the Australian premiere of Sean Penn's film Milk at the St George Open Air cinema where I met Sir Michael Parkinson and his wife Mary. At 72, the beloved 'Parky' recently announced his retirement and is in Australia for the next 3 months.
Today we were also graced with a fabulously well known character - Dame Edna Everage who was in Sydney launching her new make up range for MAC. Not sure what the colour range is like... i'm sure it's very bright and perfect for these long hot Summer days!
