I cannot believe how long it has been since I have come back to this sight. I guess, I have been coming back here to update one episode guide or another, but I did forget I had a bit of a blog here. Anyway...

XFILES!XFILES!XFILES!XFILES!XFILES!XFILES!XFILES!

So excited I can barely even think straight! I have been added any article I can find to my site (xfiles.doriennesmith.com) and cannot wait to update my episode guide with a synopsis of TXF2!

The other day, I had my music on random and Cher's "Walking in Memphis" started playing. I got so happy hearing it since I had not played it in God knows when (I mean I only got it for a single purpose anyway) and, after I played it, I immediately had to watch Post-Modern Prometheus. I still remembered all the dialogue like I always had and that is when the true excited about TXF2 began. I started to realize that in just a few days I would be watching a new chapter to The X-Files saga. For once, I would be watching Mulder and Scully and not know exactly what they were about to say and what was about to happen next. The idea of just gets me so happy I just want to dance!

I still find it fascinating how quickly this year has flown. Writing has taken over every single part of my life; even moreso now that I am finally preparing to walk across the stage at The Ohio State University. On August 24th, I will finally have to grow up... I told myself it was time to grow once The X-Files ended in 2002, but now that I will finally be out of college, I think I am actually ready to do it. But still...

As I dig up the desire to finish Flight, I begin what I hope will be my first publishable novel. Actually, it began months ago, but I am just now ready to fill in my vast pages of notes into something legible. I think I need to find some way to incorporate The X-Files into it; only because the show shaped me into the person I am today and even if it is only a vague reference that only the deepest X-Phile would get, the novel would not really be a part of me if I do not include anything. And so...

Finals are finally over! Huzzah!

There is something so depressing about Thursday finals. It feels like I get robbed of days of Christmas break. I learned a lot this quarter: I have not got a handle on "everything" like I originally thought, especially when it comes to something like extreme grief; I have a preference for literature written four hundred years ago over current things; Queen Elizabeth the first was simply one of the magnanimous people to have ever lived; I can write even better papers when I do not try to write them three hours before they are due...

I have not been posting here much lately because I have just discovered FanFiction.net and the "wonder" that lies therein. I am so captivated by the actual literature that some authors write and the absolute tripe that comes from others. I have also discovered that there is this whole community dealing with the "problem" of flamers.

I confess I have been pretty ignorant on this darker side of online communities, mostly because I tend to ignore people that sound stupid or do not have anything significant to add, but I had no idea that there so much friction online. It is kind of sad because I support the flamers on principle, but to quote a favorite X-Files episode "it's their methods I can't condone."

Constructive criticism can help people realize and learn from their mistakes perfectly fine without the "You suck at writing! Do something else with your life!" flames that get throw around that site.

Personally, I hate to see a story that has been written poorly. It turns into a waste of everyone's time and energy; the unsuspecting souls who read the nonsense and the poor writer who really is just wasting their time.

What troubles me most about the whole flame/constructive criticism argument is the fact that a lot of the problem stems from people who cannot take the criticisms and learn from them. What good does it do anyone to have praise about something that is faulty and poorly written? I know it is just fanfiction, but writing is writing and if someone is going to take the time to "borrow" the characters from X-Files, SVU, InuYasha...The Labyrinth, he or she could do the creators the common courtesy of taking the time to write something worth reading.

Anyway...[/rant] I have two stories at FF.net right now: my novel, Flight, and my first X-Files fic ever. My XF fic is a one shot, but I am up to Chapter 5 of the SVU novel.

I am kaitco there too: (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1385603/kaitco) Gah! I am kaitco everywhere. I should think up a new name before I find "kaitco" listed as an AKA on my credit report...

Flight

Hmm...I am not sure how many people are reading the novel, but...Chapter Two of Flight has been posted!

Also of note:

  • the Ohio State Buckeyes beat Michigan 14-3!!

  • and, there have been no riots on campus as a part of the "celebrations."

  • And, the second sister of a dear friend of mine who passed away in a car accident about a month ago has joined the church; the same church of which her sister was such an integral part.

All in all, life is GOOD!
