FF13 is the end of what will be locked down 3rd party exclusivity. The only company we were ever sure that would hold its word and keep its titles exclusive to a single platform Square Enix, is going multiplatform with there flagship title FF13.

Its a megaton announcement which really shows us how the gaming industry is formulated around money which sounds ridiculous for any business but i do remember the public hesitency from sega to jump in with Nintendo. This is incredibly significent since its Square Enix who dont release trailers from TGS just to keep the mystique of the company but this announcement spells the end.

The end was always in sight. Games just cost too much to produce on one Console. I am really surprised that people are acting all shocked over this. It's a nice surprise considering how boring the Microsoft Conference was. They needed this; yes Gears, Fallout and Fable 2 look great, but nothing really blew the buying public away. Even this, while nice, won't get new gamers, only give those who love to own every game, more oppertunities to spend money.

that's the way business works, but as long as it is still on Sony consoles, it's a win win for everyone. Right?

Business is business but it still hinders the selling amounts of PS3's. If the majority of "exclusive" games are ported, then it leaves little reasoning to buy more than one console. It doesn't create a "win win" situation. For example in the case of the PS3. It's in third place as far as numbers go for the amount of consoles sold. If the exclusives are ported, the people that do not own a PS3 will cease to see a reason to buy one. To me, that's what hurt Nintendo in the past and so far this gen. Relying on far and few 1st party exclusives while the 360 reels in 1st and 3rd party titles. It doesn't increase the quality of games, (as seen with many ported titles to the PS3) or lower the price. If anything, (and this is greatly exaggerated) it could prevent Sony from creating consoles and follow the route SEGA did. Nevermind worth of mouth from all the "fanboys" out there. "omg! that console ______ (whichever one) suk0rz!"

God, you're like any ranter on the web. Microsoft didn't pay Square Enix nothing. PS3 owners are just so jealous and angry, that all they can say is: "oooh, Microsoft bought that company, what will we do? Money is the main problem! They only have money, no balls!" Again, Square Enix didn't pay Microsoft, they knew they will make twice as much profit when it's multiplatform, then when it's PS3 exclusive. Besides, Final Fantasy in the beginning was a Nintendo exclusive. Why did Final Fantasy VII and so on come to the Playstation exclusively? Why didn't anyone then rant pathetically on the internet, about how untrustful Square Enix (Squaresoft at the time, right?) is? Because then the Playstation was so popular, that Square Enix didn't need to worry about profit. But now they do. God.
