Okay.  To stop these ignorant Rev controller topics, particularly "Rev controller is the eyetoy or Rev controller is the Nintendo power glove", I shall givereasons why the Nintendo Revolution controller is a completely seperate, and ultimately superior entity to either of these.

Rev controller:  Features back port so developers can customize the thing in any way they seem fit
Rev controller:  NOT motion-sensing like current products,it percieves motion, AND  depth, AND position.
Rev controller:  Can go into a Gamecube controller-esque shell (like some type of flawless voltron transformation)
Rev controller:  Is styled after a remote, something everyone in the family is comfortable using.
Rev controller:  Has the ability to virtually become an in-game object or concept.
Rev controller:  Wireless.
Rev controller:  Comes with fine plastics more intune to the PSP.
Rev controller:  Comes with "nunchaku" attachment that includes a joystick and shoulder buttons.
Rev controller:  Nintendo reports that it still has quite a few secrets to be revealed about it.

Now, to further my arguement, here are situations that use the Eyetoy, the Powerglove, and the Revolution Controller:
EYETOY:
After setting it up ontop of your Television set, you can get arrays of neat mini-games to play on your television.  In some mini-games,  the Eyetoy shows you in the middle of wacky scenery and can sense where your arms are flailing so any flying objects coming that way get bounced away.
POWERGLOVE:
Enjoy classic NES games and become the ultimate NES "Wizard" with this classic atrocity! Ever wanted NES buttons on your wrist?  NO?  Okay then.  (Honestly, it was a bit terrible)
REVOLUTION CONTROLLER:
Using the Nunchaku attachment packed-in seen below, you command link around Kakariko village with the Joystick.  Want to annoy the chickens?  Launch bombs with the shoulder buttons.  After doing the thing with the thing and saving the thing to help the girl thing, tons of crazy critters amubsh the village. When you lock on to the enemy, the joystick on the Nunchaku can still control your direction, but the controller now controls the depth, motion, and position of the sword.  After the the enemies are dead dead dead, go over to the river and the controller can become a fishing rod for link to catch fish, It can help you gain the most precise aim with link's bow or hookshot.  Tread water with it...
ANOTHER EXAMPLE:
Let us pretend the world got flipped upside down, and they remade HALO 2 on the Revolution, to include some revolution-specific features.  Aiming would be made that much realer (oooh, sniper rifles!), the sword would be given new consideration, Jabbing forward with the controller would cause the gun to slam into anything infrom of you.  moving the controller upwards would result in on-the-fly weapon switching.
THIRD EXAMPLE:
Resdent Evil 4 remade for the revolution would be great.  the nunchaku joystick and the A/b/x/y buttons would be used when Leon is investigating eerily quiet areas and picking up ammunition, but when you press down the top shoulder button, Leon draws his knife thats slashable via moving and aiming the controller.  Map different weapons to directions on the D-pad.  Tap the handgun direction and you can actually aim at the enemies with the REV controller.  Tap the bottem B trigger and Leon will stop aiming and assume a position to run for it.  All in quick succession.

POINT IS, the Rev controller can function as a run-of-the-mill controller whenever it wants to.  but it can take something you've done before, like sword battles and in-game fishing, and turn it into a more interactive experience.  We all know about the crazy FPS capabilities (EVERY developer that tried the Metroid Prime demo using the REV controller were blown away by the pin-point accuracy.  You DON'T have to flail around to effect on-screen action (wrist movements can do for any task) but expect options to change wrist movements to flailing around.

For (almost) every known detail about the Rev itself, consult http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Revolution

Sony Playstation 2 and the Nintendo Revolution.

I game right now solely on my Nintendo DS,  so I feel that I can give an unbiased prediction.

Xbox360: utilizes the same media as its predessecor and doesn't truly evolve gaming as an experience.  Launch games ranged from alot of mainstream to sequals to long awaited continued franchises.  Many of the systems games seem to center around killing racing and fighting just like you've done before.  Some RPG's are announced for release, as are some imaginative titles... but it seems to really be 400 bucks for xbox 1.5.  Microsoft decided they wanted to come out as early as possible, and now M$ fans are gonna hafta pay up the money for something that is seemingly not a true evolution.

PS2: Currently the only system out their that continues to pump out brilliant titles at the drop of a hat (on a windy day!).  Sony could possibly live on this console forever since it can share 3rd party support with microsoft's "next-gen" console.  Proving that we aren't even ready for a true next-gen yet.

PS3: With a rediculousely advanced new media (blu-ray), the PS3 will either not deliver on it's next-gen promises, or go too over the top.  It's either gonna be just like 360, or be too expensive for developers and gamers...

Nintendo Revolution: Simplicity, affordability, still stronger and fully backward compatible with gamecube.  Many smart decisions like onboard flash memory instead of a harddrive.  Expect Ninty to release affordable memory upgrade cards, even though regular flash mem cards are compatible.  With what we know about the controller so far, we know that whenevergameplay calls for it, the controller has the ability to virtually become an in-game object.  Pretty much an affordable revolution for any developer tired of high costs and complicated kits, that still delivers more power than it's predessecor.

I think that the PS2 (unless SONY goes insane and stops it so they can focus on the PS3) can stay alive for a VERY long time, and the revoltuion will provide a whole new convenience for both the consumer and the developers side of the industry (meaning lower prices for games, meaning developers can pack in their own attachments for the controller without the price going guitar-hero on our @$$es).

Just to clear a few things up, this post is assuming that PS3 and the Nintendo Revolution do not release until late 2006.

Today we have the Gamecube, the Xbox, and the Playstation 2. We really like the ones we own (most of us), and we (hopefully) have enjoyed the games produced for our own systems immensely. However, Now the turning of tides is apoun us, and all three leading game companies (argueably Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony) have begun putting alot of their efforts into perfecting and upgrading their upcoming entries into the System War (The Nintendo Revolution, The Microsoft Xbox 360, and the Sony Playstation 3).

*I am sure many of us have noticed theupcoming decline of support for our current consoles, and we are also (somewhere, in the depths of our non-thought-about-clearly things) worrying about the possibility of gaming droughts on all three system.

During these droughts, all the way up to Gamecube and Playstation 2's deaths, a system of next-generation calibur (personally, I don't think X360 OR PS3 are upgraded enough to buy a whole new system for) will slam into the industry with decent force (its nearly immpossible to find a place that has pre-orders left for 360). Developers are going to want a piece of this pie, meaning even LESS GC, XBOX, and PS2 support, and the situation is going to be VERY similar to : Ps2 vs Sega Dreamcast vs Nintendo 64:.... Here is why:

: PS2 vs DC vs N64: = PS2 comes in and is favoured by the gaming community (well, I thought DC and N64 rocked). The other two systems suffered game droughts (not sure if this was true for DC), so there was a peroid of time where most gamers and developers mutually began to support the PS2. This gave PS2 a HUGE advantage, and also helped it gain top place in the current console race (it should be honorably noted for being successful in two hardware generations).

* note: PS1 also continued to be successful well into PS2's reign

: PS2 vs GC vs XBOX360: =PS2 and GC are still getting many awesome titles by years end (Budokai Tenkaichi, LOZ:TP, Dragon Warrior VII, + more), however, support is still gradually waning. Xbox 360 will come in and become (probably by a decent margirin) the most supported system from end of 2005 to late 2006. That means it will have all that time to gain both 3rd party support and a bigger fanbase (some will stay loyal to Sony and Nintendo (probably me), but some will buy 360 to avoid game droughts). To me, this sounds VERY familiar to the journey that PS2 took to become as successful as it is now.

* note: Microsoft claims that the original Xbox will continue to recieve support for a long time.

If you cared long enough to read through that mass of information you probably already knew, but maybe did'nt think about too much, than you probably will now be more aware of the upcoming Xbox 360 domination period, and what it will probably do for the Xbox 360.

*NOTE: I, personally, will stick it out with my PS2, GC, and especially my DS (gotta love Animal Crossing!)

UPDATE!!:  See above blog post for how well I think the 360 with it's "domination period" is doing now.

justdog11 must really love MovieTome and agree with every review we've ever written! What other reason could justdog11 possibly have for not rating a single film?
