On Friday of last week, some very good friends of our family had a child. However, they had some very serious complications. Yesterday at 4:00 in the evening, the child died. It was a terrible situation. I cannot imagine what they are feeling right now. It really made my troubles all seem kind of lame.
My heart really goes out to these guys. They plan to have the funeral tomorrow.
What do you say to someone going through something like that?

Just tell them how sorry you are and ask if they need anything to just ask. Not much you can do, but let them know they have friends.

It's a difficult situation. Like the advice already given, I'd offer my condolences and then simply be there if they want to talk about it.

That's hard.
There's not much a person can say in a time like that.

I agree...not much can really be said, other than expressing your sorrow at their loss.

Not much you can say but being there for them is what they'll need.
