The Kipper's Greatest Films of All Time

A list of my personal favorites, not necessarily the greatest from a critical standpoint (you won't find "Citizen Kane" on this list!)

  1. Apocalypse Now

    1. Apocalypse Now

The movie that has everything and everything done well.
  2. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

    2. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Not only the greatest western, but stylishly one of the greatest films ever made.
  3. Blue Velvet

    3. Blue Velvet

It's a toos-up between this and Wild at Heart. Maybe all of Lynch's films belong on this list.
  4. Pee-wee's Big Adventure

    4. Pee-wee's Big Adventure

One of the few comedies that has so many funny beats after repeated viewings.
  5. Dead Man

    5. Dead Man

All of Jarmusch's films are worth seeing, but Depp takes this one to a new level.
  6. A Clockwork Orange
  7. Ed Wood

    7. Ed Wood

There probably shouldn't be another Burton film on this list, but I couldn't justify putting Glen or Glenda here instead.
  8. Bullet in the Head
  9. Drunken Master

    9. Drunken Master

Hilarious, and some of the best kung fu action ever.
  10. Enter the Dragon

    10. Enter the Dragon

The greatest of all action films; I've seen it more times than any other movie and in every format available (although I did skip the Viewmaster version.)
  11. Dogma

    11. Dogma

Chasing Amy is probably Smith's best film, but this one is funnier and easier to watch.
  12. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

    12. Dr. Strangelove

Always hilarious AND suspenseful after repeated viewings.
  13. Patton

    13. Patton

There aren't many great war films, and this one has its flaws, but Scott makes this one beyond good.
  14. Pecker

    14. Pecker

I could've put Polyester or Cecil B. Demented here instead, but this remains my favorite film by Waters. I'll probably change my mind tomorrow.
  15. Natural Born Killers

    15. Natural Born Killers

The over-the-top approach didn't work for most viewers, but I give it my highest compliments.
  16. Mulholland Dr.

    16. Mulholland Dr.

If I watch it over and over again, shouldn't it be on this list?
  17. The Crow

    17. The Crow

Great music, action, and production values from the goth/grunge era.
  18. Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie

    18. Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie

When one of the greatest TV shows makes an equally excellent film version, it has to go on this list.
  19. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

    19. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Really, the film as a whole belongs here. I thought the books could never be made into films, but Jackson proved me to be wrong.
  20. Gettysburg

Well, I enjoyed "Gettysburg"...other than that, almost all of your list is a star or contender on my over-rated list.

what an eclectic mix! Gettysburg is one of my favorites (although it didn't make my top ten list). Some of these I've never seen (Pecker?), but I thought Clockwork Orange and Mulholland Drive were a bit overrated. I've watched The Crow a couple times but it's too dark for me to view again. One of these days I will actually sit down and watch Dr. Strangelove! It's one of those that I've rented but never sat down and watched

Wow, you and I have some very similar tastes. On this list, movies I’d 100% agree with as personal favorites:

Patton, The Crow, Dr. Strangelove, Good Bad Ugly, Mullholland (bizarre as it is) both of your martial arts choices, and Gettysburg.

I’m sure you’ve seen most of these, but if you haven’t checked them out, I’d highly recommend the following:

Once Upon a Time in the West, Tombstone, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Chasing Amy
