Everyone who voted for Gordon Freeman in the best video game hero competition needs to see what the world would look like without Mario.

Gamespot's voting system was flawed anyway. Instead, they should have had character vs. character smackdowns similar to this Scorpion/ Donkey Kong battle.

Mario's defeat was painful enough, but after logging in to this site for the first time in about a week I discover that not one, but two people have tagged me for one of those silly "10 facts about me" blogs. I am considering no longer speaking to those people. I'm not one to shirk my responsibilities however, so here's 10 random facts.

1)I have 5 fingers on each hand

2)I had pizza for lunch today

3)There are 206 bones in my body

4)I've been playing video games since the Atari 2600

5)I am composed of about 60% water

6)I don't like being around people

7)I have one X chromosome and one Y chromosome

8 My favorite number is 3

9)I am right handed

10)After finishing this blog, I plan on starting Uncharted 2

Enlightening, no? Hoping to put an end to this vicious cycle, I will tag no one.

Someday soon, Sandpiper121PP and Lazyhoboguy, you two will pay for what you've done. Oh yes….. you will pay….

Hey, look at the bright side. I'm still around.

I think people would like being around you even if you didn't want them around.

I voted for Gordon. He is just cooler than Mario. I mean the Mario games were innovative, and revolutionary, and industry saving and all, but this is a vote for the greatest hero, not the greatest game, and Mario doesn't really have much of a personality, or any really cool powers or abilities. Gordon graduated from MIT. He has a hot girlfriend who actually saves him at times instead of getting constantly kidnapped in the same way over and over. And Gordon can use a crowbar to defeat energy rifle wielding super alien soldiers. That takes moxy if you know what I mean. Yea I just said moxy. Mario, he couldn't even comprehend moxy. I mean he probably doesn't even understand basic speech patterns, much less depreciated urban slang.

Here's a nifty little fact. I had two extra bones in my body, one in each foot. They were removed in my early twenties because they became very painful. I also approve of point number 6.

*Frantically deletes Steed from tag list*

@mprezzy: No, that's a pretty dim side. I'm the golden sun around here .

I'm jealous of #10 and #5... i wish I was more like #5, I can relate completely on #9... thanks.

I needed to be in that poll, none of those characters could have been heroes without my aid o_O. Also seth, Gordan didn't have much of a personality either, the only time you ever see even a resemblance of his face for example were in ads, without marketing we wouldn't even know what he looked like o_o. I don't know how Alyx could of gotten used to fighting for her life with someone who's basically a robot.

I am not sure how successful the best game hero competition was but it certainly generated a lot of comments and debate.

I like your list - I especially relate to #4.

Make it rain on them... suckers for tagging you. Those rascals.
Posted Oct 23, 2009 4:19 pm PT
How is it that after reading this I feel like I know less about you then I did before? How is that possible?
Posted Oct 23, 2009 4:38 pm PT
That's excellent! Take a stand against tagging. Speaking of the Atari 2600, was Pac Man in the list of video game heroes? If he wasn't, why the heck not?

i stopped at #2. You live in New York...you had pizza...I'm am very, very jealous. As an Italian whose family is from Brooklyn, living in Georgia sucks when it comes to food.

You absolute freak of nature! How do you play games with 5 fingers on each hand? Does the lack of thumbs affect your gaming prowess?

I voted for Mario. He is just cooler than Gordon Freeman. I mean the Half-Life games were innovativ eand revolutionary, and industry saving and all, but this vote is fro the greatest hero, not the greatest game, and Gordon Freeman doesn't really have much of a personality, or any really cool powers or abilities. Mario graduated from TAFE. He has a hot girlfriend who actually bakes him cakes instead of just walking around playing with computers and providing eye candy. And Mario can jump on turtles and other such animals to kill them. That takes courage, and a good insurance policy on your knees. Despite graduating from MIT I don't think Gordon Freeman even knows you can have your knees insured, and why would he? It's not like he needs it. I mean, he probably couldn't even jump several times his height in the air, let alone then land on somebody's head.

A world without Mario.... my idea of paradise!

I've expressed my thoughts on the Game Hero competition elsewhere. I thought the whole thing was stupid and flawed, with a very, VERY loose and disjointed definition of what constitutes a "hero." Ultimately though, I think the people complaining that Mario should have won are forgetting a very important detail: The competition was about the best game HERO, not the most influential game FRANCHISE. We can debate all day and night about how important the Mario franchise is to gaming and how different the industry would be without the series, but as a character I find Mario to be very bland, shallow, and one-dimensional. Mario is really nothing but an image, a caricature that you move through the levels. He has no personality, no real backstory, no real character development or advancement. He is just a vehicle for the gamer to guide through the game. You could say the same about Gordon Freeman, but I'm just pointing out that the competition wasn't about what franchise is more influential, which is basically what defenders of Mario are trying to argue. As a character, Mario is nothing more than a colorful, iconic image with no greater depth underneath.

That said, you mean those fact tags are STILL being sent around on GS? I remember being tagged well over a year ago, probably closer to two. Who started this crap again?

I agree without the succes of Mario gaming wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is today. And I don't mind the whole tagging thing, but mainly because I'm rarely tagged.

You know, I don't believe you. How can you have so many friends, so many people who care about you and still say that you "don't like being around people"?
Posted Oct 23, 2009 11:50 pm PT
@mprezzy - I'm still trying to see a bright side

@MsCortana - who cares what other people would like? It's all about my feelings!

@Setho10 - well Gordon has zero personality, so Mario's "not much" personality is an improvement. If your sink was backed up, Gordon would be useless to you. Mario has a hot girlfriend who actually saves him at times. Mario can use a flower to defeat giant mutant turtles. Mario can even use basic speach patterns, unlike the mute Gordon.

@kellymae - wow, that's an interesting fact. I should have tagged you!

@ImaginaryFriend - you wish you were composed of more water? If you weren't you would be dead!

@visionary - I think many people wanted the "best hero" competition to be 'best character"

@MJoanne - Do I need to bring back reasons I can't stand people?
Posted Oct 24, 2009 7:03 am PT
@lazyhoboguy - Grrrrrrrrr.....

@polsci1503 - it's magic!

@luc11044 - check the great hero bracket and find out!

@bacchus2 - it isn't difficult. Trust me.

@Foolz3h - an excellent and very well reasoned argument. @Setho10 certainly needs to read this

@SYdoggXxX - careful... or I will tag you!!

@raven28256 - historians will be debating that question for years, I'm sure.

@johnsteed7
OK, OK, you convinced me! But you still have quite a few friends for a curmudgeon.
Posted Oct 24, 2009 7:23 am PT
Now THAT'S how one should handle being tagged!

... Although a favorite color would have been nice...
Posted Oct 24, 2009 3:25 pm PT
I live in AZ, its closer to 58.5%... never can seem to stay hydrated...
Posted Oct 24, 2009 9:19 pm PT
WOW! We have so much in common! for instance I also had Pizza last night! I also am right handed! As for paying for what I did... do you accept cash, check, or credit card???
Posted Oct 25, 2009 1:29 pm PT
@Sandpiper121PP - cash would do nicely!
Posted Oct 25, 2009 2:38 pm PT
good idea to let the silly *** fad die out

I held the line against what I thought was a ridiculous video game hero competition by voting for who I thought were the best available.

Cate Archer and Lara Croft.

Julie Strain would have wiped the floor with any of the guys that were in the competition.

That was not enlightening at all. Almost like you were joking...

Aw.. I was just about to tag you in my recent blog. Oh well, it seems I am too late. Awesome facts though.
