So now that E3 has ended, we're all probably wondering who had a good showing, or what hot games are hot and what not. Well I am here to share my opinion on the matter. I would first like to preface this by saying that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all had a sub-par to horrid conference, so with that in mind I am going to start off with the conferences.
Microsoft - Microsoft started off the conferences starting at 10 AM on Monday. Outside of the number spiel which is always boring, Microsoft didn't show anything "new" that would appeal to the Gamer outside of Portal: Still Alive , but there really wasn't much shown for that so, it really didn't make up for the lack of anything new coming to xbox360, which disappointed me as a gamer.
Outside of the good looking games that we all knew about, Microsoft did drop a bomb with the announcement of Final Fantasy XIII come to the 360. Though with the lack of future titles past 2008, and the focus on casuals I can only wonder if Microsoft has forgotten about true gamers, and going for the casual market like the Wii.
This fact was confirmed with the introduction of Miis, I mean the Avatars, along with a whole new interface that just looks ugly, but who knows maybe it just had to grow on you? They announced a whole new partnership with Netflixs and the future ability of allowing you to download games to the hard-drive.
Overall Rating: D+ (If it wasn't for the Final Fantasy this conference would have just been worthless.)
Nintendo - Nintendo took the stage the following day at 9 AM, I really don't know where to start, so I'll start about the horrid line up of games, have they forgotten about gamers? They announced NOTHING for the hardcore gamer, its so bad right now, I in fact am questioning why I even bought the Wii.
Outside of the lack of games, the Nintendo employees and special guests where just a laughing joke, this presentation has no redeeming qualities. In fact I am done talking about it because it was just that BAD and no if you think that Wii Sensor is redeeming just shut up, you're stupid.
Overall Rating: F
Sony - Sony took the stage after Nintendo at 10 AM. Sony wasn't a bad performance infact out of the 3, it was the only presentation i didn't mind watching the whole numbers presentation thanks to Little Big Planet. Sony then dribbled on with PS2 and PSP, which in all honesty isn't what the gamers wanted to hear about.
Though all the wait was worth it for when they started to talk about the PS3, the announcement of God of War 3 was all but confirmed as official and an even bigger announcement of MAG(Massive Action Game) was even bigger supporting up to 256 people in a multiplayer experience.
Also for those of you who care Sony also introduced a whole new movie and movie rental as part of the play-station online store.
Overall Rating: C- (The Introduction of two knew potential AAA games and the showing off of LBP's true power saved this otherwise boring presentation.)
I believe people are always looking for perfection, as if it is something that is achievable. I believe people need to realise that a perfect 10 does not mean that a game is perfect in all sense of the word, that in fact a 10 means that the game is so good that is might rival perfection but is not there.
As with all things nothing is perfect, and universal perfection can never be achieved so what should we look for in a game? What makes a game perfect, if in fact it can't ever reach perfection.
We need not look at a game for adsolute perfection, but look for what the game's merits are. By judging a game on its merits and what it brings to the table will we be able to call a game perfect. As with all art it is not a scientific study, there are no right or wrong, no perfect or unperfect, it is something we need to look past the bugs, and say to ourselves this is perfect or not.
Though I fell if we're chasing games for perfection we're doing an injustice to the art of the games by not seeing what is in front of us for what it really is. We should not chase perfection, but enjoy the art that is at our door steps.
The pursuit of perfect is the eternal pursuit of the damned, the only real pursuit we should have as games is a pursuit of happiness.
Games need to stop being released just to be released if you aren't going to finish the game don't release it!
Alot of good ideas get destroyed because of the producer or developer rushing the game out the door this needs to stop, games that could have been great like Vanguard or Starwars galaxies just suffer from lack of fine tuning and bug control. I am tired of playing games that promise alot but end up being destroyed.
Gothic 3 is another example the game is amazingly fun once you get past all the bugs, and more bugs. This game is so buggy that it makes buggy games look less buggy. But the game in itself is very fun.
Please for the love of all that is holy stop releasing buggy games!
