...And I am truly jealous. She's finally put in her 30 years of teaching at the same little school in Florida, and she's ready to hang up her teaching hat. Her school sent out invitations to family, friends, and former colleagues and students and gave her a wonderful retirement party on Friday for her years of service to the school.

Meanwhile, since I started the profession late, I still have 19 years left to go! I joined the family profession a bit late - my Mom, Dad, and three older sisters are/were all teachers. I think we have something like 170 years of teaching between us all thus far. Anyway, Barbara is the first of the "girls" to reach retirement. Though I know I am much too young to have a sister who is retiring, I still want to wish my sister, Barbara, a happy retirement at any rate!

Congrats to your sister on retiring...I hope she enjoys the quiet time. Many people couldn't handle peace and quiet in retirement but I think former teachers can quite nicely...

KFC - Maybe we're all just a little bit nuts!

hoffman - Thanks for the reminder...

torlight - I teach 7/8 grade English and I also teach English comp at the local junior college.

maritimer - You are so right! Sometimes after school I even turn off the radio on the ride home just for a bit of peace and quiet!
