Recently I was in a forum here in gamespot, and here's a little that was said.

I could list off a ton of things related to this, but for now, I'll just share with you guys just one thing.

Well, to me it's pretty shocking, it sounds wierd, but here it is.
Some kid actually came into my work and said that he 'remembered where he left his games for his dreamcast. Man, that this is RETRO!'

I shudder everytime I think about it. There were so many things that I could say and not even in a way to insult the kid. I mean, what do you think about when someone says retro? I think about anything NES and back, hell, even super nintendo can fit into there simply because it has a ton of C-word games.

What do you guys think about it?

When I was in a gamestop, these two middle school kids called the Xbox "Old School". I'm 24, grew up on the NES since 1988 and been gaming ever since. the Xbox is not old school. How can a system with online multiplayer be old school? Old school is turning your TV to channel 3, blowing on the dusty connecters, etc....

I totally agree! Hell, to my knowledge it wasn't that good, but even the dreamcast had online. I think the term old-school is used too much for everything nowadays. I've been a gamer since 1990, and with all the new stuff and all these kids coming into my store running their moths off about all the stuff that this console doesn't have and all these firmware upgrades to our consoles, I feel really old. Hell, I'm barely even considered an adult, and I feel ancient. It isn't right!

What are your guys' opinions. What is retro gaming to you and why?

i agree, i have been a gamer since 1990 aswell, i still have the original sonic the hedgehog for the genesis!
i think retro gaming is between the atari 2600, nintendo, the sega master system , the sega genesis and the super nintendo

i think i console isn't retro until it has a good two consoles behind it and a pc game isn't retro until the next directx version gets released and it hits a ten year mark. dreamcast was last gen so it aint retro yet. n64 is new retro but barely. thats what i think anyways. but first thing i think of is nes

I've been NINTENDO gaming since 1993... I played some PC games too when I was a kid but now it's plain Nintendo...

I'm a little extreme when it comes to retro or not...

Atari and NES are old games to me... Retro.
SNES and GameBoy are not new nor old.
N64, GC, DC, PS2 and XBox... (Not PS1 for some reason) share the same "pretty new" title.
DS, Wii, Xbox360 are new.

That's how I see it. This isn't right... I know... But It's the most logic way I can see it...

I hardly even consider the NES retro because that is what I first started playing. Retro (to me) is anything before my time; such as, Intellivision, Atari, etc.

Though.. I might add, I still played Intellivision quite often at my grandparents house Burger Time and Utopia FTW

I would call DC retro. Anything you go into a gaming store and they don't supply anymore, INCLUDING the bins. I went into a gamestop and they said they no longer carry Lumines for the PSP. WTF?!?! So, having said that, cartridges, DC, it's nearing 10 years old, so when's it going to get old? My all-time favorite game is a dreamcast game and I consider it a classic.

And what game would that be that's your favorite? And I agree with pretty much all of you guys. You all make very valid, different points which all in all pretty much wrap up retro in a couple different perspectives.
