@pai-may they had Obama and his wife supporting Chicago, Oprah was helping, they had the money needed and yet they got screwed.

I guess we all feel that way when a city in our own country gets passed over.

@pai-may that is how i feel.

Hurray for Chicago.

It's definitely not just about money. I think it was ridiculous that President Obama and Oprah even got involved. Besides, we had an Olympics here just seven years ago. That sounds like a long time ago, but Olympics are only every two years. I think it's more fun anyway when it's somewhere outside the USA because we get to experience a unique location...and we can still root for the US team.

I do think Chicago was screwed...I could have gone to the Olympics...less then 30 mins from where I live...-_-

I guess this means Mario and Sonic are going to Rio for the next game and will wear feathers in their hair and beads on their butt for Carnivale.

This is the problem dude if there's a olympics in Chicago they have to destroy homes and buildings and we have to pay taxes, does that seem cool? Um no.

How did Chicago get screwed? This will be the first Olympics for not only Brazil, but South America as a whole. How many has the U.S. already had on it's soil? Quite a few I'd imagine. Also, did you see the reaction that Brazil had after they won the bid?!? There was absolute jubilation for an event that won't even occur for another 7 years. I don't think Americans would have been that excited had Chicago won (at least Americans outside of Chicago...)
I'm an American and I'm happy for Rio de Janeiro. ***Edit*** Just checked. The U.S. has hosted 8 Olympics so far in 112 years of the Modern Olympic games, 4 Summer and 4 Winter.

Rio??? I seriously thought that Madrid or Tokyo would get it.

No i think they deserved...

Hosting the Olympics is the last thing we need to worry about right now, I'm glad Chicago lost.

There are twp reasons why:
Very little people outside care about good ol' America.
Or the spreading violence in the city. What the hell was Obama thinking?

Yeah it would have been cool to have it in chicago, but it will be in canada very shortly and north america has historically been overrepresented in the olympic locations.

No they didn't, they just didn't win. It happens. Not like Chicago was the only city to lose to Rio de Janeiro...

Chicago was not screwed...the USA and Canada have hosted many summer and winter Olympic games. There has never been an Olympic games held in South America-it is their turn. Secondly, given the financial crunch in Chicago and their history (and present) of corrupt politics, the whole process would drain millions of dollars from the city. Rio will do a great job, it was the best choice.

Nope. Developing nations are finally getting a shot at presenting themselves to the world.

No, Chicago doesn't deserve anything. Seriously, a "windy city" doesn't need to host an event like that.
Our President should be focusing on the war, which he just sent more troops over to fight, and hasn't even communicated with generals there in months. But no, making sure everyone that doesn't have a job has health insurance for any sniffle and trying to sport the Olympics in his "hometown" is where his attention is at. Shows where his priorities are.

it's an honour, but one they maybe don't want as much as they think they do... coming from someone who's home is going to be host to the winter Olympics next year, i can tell you that the financial strain it's placed on us has been staggering; now they are threatening to put the HST on us - a 15% sales tax on almost EVERYTHING - in order to pay for it. I don't think in the wake of a recession that anyone needs that kind of financial burden.
