I knew it was going to be hard to replace Mandy Pantinkin, having grown so fond of him. When a favorite show loses a key character, we wonder if there is a conflicting contract, or perhaps they've taken a stint on Broadway (as Mandy Pantinkin has often done) We look at the scripts carefully to see if they are writing a character off completely (kill 'em) or if they left places where 'they' could be written back in. If they replace the character with a different actor sometimes we viewers are pretty fickle...taking out our disappointment over losing the original guy "out" on the next character (or the actor playing them)
How many times have you heard someone say "I won't watch anymore - ever since they got rid of 'so-&-so'. I guess that shows in the ratings as well. Hopefully, if we like a show enough we will support it at least until we get used to the change.
Well, tonight I was able to watch the episode that first introduced us to Joe Montangna's "Rossi". All of those 'fickle fan' tendencies were easier to quell because I have always been quite fond of anything Montangna portrayed. Tonight was encouraging to see how quickly the new 'Rossi' was able to sooth our doubts (that he was no Gideon) and find that he won't even have to 'try' to replace Gideon. It even seems that 'Rossi' is going through a similar kind of grief not only as we viewers ~ but with the rest of the BAU team as well. I guess what I am trying to say is that a better choice of person to take Gideons place could not have been made. It may be hard to say we like him as well as Mandy Patinkin, but I think the dark cryptic traits that we loved about Gideon we will also become very fond of in Rossi. We may even be shuttering to think about some of the spooky dark places in the burial ground of HIS history {!eek!?}scared o' THAT
