As a lifelong fan of short story fiction, I simply must take this opportunity to pay my respects to the memory of Rod Serling. An intensely talented writer, he could make you think, break your heart or scare the bejeezus out of you depending on his frame of mind when he sat down to the keyboard to write. On both his Night Gallery and Twilight Zone series, he highlighted the talents of other masters of the short story, past and present. His collaborations with Richard Matheson are legendary, what serious fan of horror could ever forget "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", perhaps the most famous and talked about Twilight zone ever made? His absence from the world of story telling is keenly felt. There will never be another like him.

"I Am Legend" was published in 1954. I was BORN in 1954! Richard Matheson has been scaring the peanuts out of horror fans all of my life with some of the best terror writing (Richard Matheson calls himself a terror writer, not a horror writer...a distinction he insists upon)the world of television and motion pictures has ever seen! Considered an American classic, "I Am Legend" has made it to the big screen in a minimum of three separate incarnations; "The Last Man On Earth" starring Vincent Price, "The Omega Man" starring Charelton Heston and the latest high end but somewhat disappointing production; "I Am Legend" starring Will Smith. Richard Matheson has been responsible for some of the best episodes of The Night Gallery series in addition to The Twilight Zone and has done some marvelous work with the late producer Dan Curtis over the years. Some years back, his novel "What Dreams May Come" was made into one of the most unusual and intensely touching and romantic movies I've ever seen, where Robin Williams gives up the bliss of heaven to rescue his wife's soul from hell after she commits suicide. Dante Alighieri would have been proud of that movie, would that he were alive to see it. Mr Matheson; long life to you, and may you continue to produce quality stories and screen plays for years to come!

In 2006 Dan Curtis passed away from a brain tumor, and I figured it was high time I paid my respects to a talented producer of some of greatest classic horror productions of the 1970's, among other distinctive accomplishments. I was one of those kids that ran like crazy from the school bus to catch the last ten minutes of Dark Shadows, I was such a huge fan of that show. Then Dan Curtis produced classic versions of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, and a classic presentation of Dracula by Bram Stoker, all of which are now a part of my permanent DVD collection. These were video equivalents of the classic comics I used to enjoy when I was young. Who can forget Darren McGavin battling a 90 plus year old vampire in contemporary Las Vegas in The Night Stalker? Or that hideous Zuni fetish doll tearing Karen Black a new one in the infamous made for T.V. movie Trilogy of Terror, made with the writing talents of legendary "terror writer" Richard Matheson, a frequent co-conspirator with Dan Curtis on some of his best work. Oh, yea, did I forget to mention that Dan Curtis produced one of the greatest mini-series about world war two ever made-War and Remembrance. Rest in peace Mr. Curtis, and thanks for the many great memories.

Raising kids really is the most important job in the world and let's face it gang, not everybody that applies for THIS position is up to it. I like this show for the same reasons that I blasted Wife Swap. The producers of Wife Swap seem to do their best to generate dysfunction and then capitalize on it. Jo Frost has dedicated her career to healing it, and she's bloody good at what she does. I wish Jo would do a special show where she helps an unmarried single person trying to deal with out of control neighbor kids. I could personally use a little help in this area!
