Don't buy a system at launch, don't believe the hype, rehashing ideas is cool as long as the final product has pretty graphics, waiting for a price drop, stupid DLC that doesn't add much at all to the game but cost like 10 bucks), If all else fails rely on gimmicks, GameStop is really a joke when it comes to buying/selling games, fanboys are idiots (also some of the biggest posers around)

Oh yeah, I never buy a system at launch because some amazing deal always follows (like this new PS3 bundle from Best Buy).

There is almost no way I would buy a system at launch.

@ Lionheart08

@ PLZKLLME0080

I was dumb enough to buy a PSP at launch. I have no clue why I did it what so ever. I was actually smart enough not to not to pick up my PS3 and 360 at launch though.

Yeah I didn't pick up any of this gen's consoles until a couple of months ago, when a PS3 was on sale for 299.99$ 80GB. I hate DLC.

I bought a PSP at launch. PS3 and 360 I got a year after launch, and I got the wii about 3 months after launch

My most hated part of this gen is when devs release a game and then release DLC that unlocks stuff that should have been in the final game.

That, and unlocking gameplay-affecting things you get by pre-ordering.

The only system this gen i bought at launch was the wii so that isnt too bad. Oh and you forgot to put "FPS games are mass produced and a dime a dozen, and for the most part the same game as the last yet people still buy them".

Yes, so true.

This gen has taught me that if a game does not have trophies people will ignore it, it taught me that money is more than loyalty, and it also taught me that DLC is mostly crap.
Posted Jul 9, 2009 2:18 am PT
this gen is not bad nor great only few games have marked but a problem with this gen that it concentrating more in online and less on the story that was so important in the last era that is why mgs4 became knowed as the best of this generation. Also they are making many dlc that dont really match up to the price this generation is lacking of storytelling lets hope games like the orgami killer heavy rain and team ico next project may shine with brilliant story telling.

I don't buy systems at launch mainly because price always gets cheaper and there's always a better deal in the future, not to mention I tend to lack funds when the system launches.

Only system I bought at launch was the PS2, worth it.

GameStop sucks, I only buy from them when they have really good deals in their bargain bins.

Um hmm... what I learned from this gen is that I should have been into video games last gen, so that by this gen I would have out-grown video games, instead of the other way around.

Now I'm just depressed over a market that has so many problems that I can never change because PEOPLE DON'T LISTEN. Oh and also, video games really are for young adults, no matter how many millions of 20+ year olds playing games there are. This leads to many of the problems and basically scams that this gen has taken full advantage of.

Although, aren't some of your points things that can be attributed to the previous gen, and those before it? With the exception of DLC, which WILL get worse as we enter the second decade of the 21st centurty.

nice man , we have smart ppl on gamespot xD
the only thing i bought few days after launch was ipod touch hmm it was still worth it because it was much more expensive in my country .
and i never bought a console at launch , could never afford anything

So true.
Posted Jul 9, 2009 9:30 pm PT
I never buy systems at launch. Games may be enjoyable sources of entertainment, but with the launch prices for some games ($599.99 US for a PS3?), it's common sense to just wait it out until prices drop and games begin to come out. Also, not believing the hype is something I had to learn the hard way

Very good list and very true. DLC is usually crap, either just a few bonus maps or a couple new characters. : / I hate GameStop. Stopped shopping there a while ago. I traded in my old PS2 there but that's the last time I've been there. Fanboys are idiots.

EDIT: Does buying a PS3 Slim count as a launch? : /

I've become quite the I guess cynical gamer lately. It takes A LOT for a game to impress me enough to purchase it.

ya i try to wait like half a year before buying a console so i can see all the games it has to offer or i wait till i see e3 witch ever comes first
Posted Sep 8, 2009 5:59 pm PT
Most of these are true, specially the fanboys part
Posted Sep 14, 2009 12:53 am PT
I've also been gaming for years and I think your right about the system buying. I actually follow the same philosophy!! Thanks for Valkyrie Profile tips by the way, well see ya!! Blog me sometime ( no-homo!!).

@jasonharris48 - i completely agree! but somehow these video game companies are so good at getting us to feel like we're missing out on something if we don't get it right away..

Well I definitely agree with "don't buy systems at launch" part. It's always best to wait things out. The thing I hate about GS is that it is a joke but, it's still the best place to buy games. It's sad really. As far as the fanboys go, they really have outdone themselves with their stupidity. Hype is misinformation fuels their every action. I let my gut decide for me what games I should play. If a game has too many fanboys, it's best to just ignore it and move on. Gamespot itself is proof of this madness.

I, too, don't believe in launch systems. I generally wait at least two years to buy current generation systems.
