While the whole world is caught up in the questions of “did Michael Jackson abuse these kids?” no one seems to be asking (what I think is) the obvious question…who molested Michael Jackson? It seems to be a well established fact that molesters are made not born so where are the pundits asking the even bigger question?
I have seen nearly 24 hour coverage of the court proceedings, from hair style to eye movements getting front page coverage and yet no one seems to be dissecting what (if true) motivated Jackson to do this. Too many blame “child star syndrome” and move on, but I think there is more to it then this.
Statistically, it’s likely that Jackson himself was sexually abused as a child. The signs are there. He’s stuck in this childlike fantasy (probably brought on through a combination of denial and other traumatic incidents), has spent millions to change himself from what he was…the list goes on. I think the time has come to look at the lessons to be gained from these high-profile cases of molestation.
It should be the work of responsible journalists to discuss the pathway to molestation, the warning signs of the perpetrator and the victim. Pundits should be discussing the line of responsibility and the roll of families and communities to stop the cycle of abuse.
It’s impossible to say for sure, though probably the case, that Michael Jackson has (in some way) abused these boys. But on a larger scale we, as society need to glean more then just the excitement of seeing a celebrity fall. We should be taking lessons away from this that will protect children in the future and ensure that we keep our eye on the right objectives.
Maybe we should all be asking…who molested Michael Jackson?
