To be honest, I've never seen the original Rush Hour before. But I have seen Rush Hour 2, which is one of my favourite movies ever - it has a good plot, an interesting cast of characters, a bunch of hilarious scenes, and some awesome action sequences. Rush Hour 3 is only able to maintain two out of those four aspects: the hilarious scenes and the awesome action sequences.
Three years after the events of Rush Hour 2, James Carter (Chris Tucker) is now working as a traffic patrol cop, while Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) is currently acting as a bodyguard for Ambassador Han (played by Tzi Ma, who was also in the original Rush Hour). It is soon discovered that Han and his daughter are the targets of the Chinese triads, and once again, Lee and Carter team up to hunt down the triads and stop them for good.
For some strange reason, the duo's search leads them to Paris, France, where most of the story takes place. Once they arrive there, the whole plot just seems to fall apart. It's hard to know what exactly is going on, because the fact is, there's too much going on at once. And once you do in fact understand what's happening, it's all a bit ridiculous.
Rush Hour 3 also seriously lacks character development. Although Ambassador Han does return, his role is extremely limited. Soo Yung (Jingchu Zhang), Han's daughter, also returns in Rush Hour 3, but her role is also not very important or interesting at all. Lee's brother, Kenji (Hiroyuki Sanada), was the one character who had some potential of being interesting, but he completely lacked character progression as well. The only character I really enjoyed (besides Lee and Carter, of course) is the hilarious taxi driver George (wonderfully played by Yvan Attal).
But even with all this, I definitely still recommend watching Rush Hour 3. It's hard to believe, but there are even more hilarious moments in this movie than the previous installment. I was pretty much laughing every 5 minutes. There are even more action sequences as well, and these have also been improved and are more exciting than ever. Even though there's no good plot or character progression, Rush Hour 3 is a great fun movie to watch and laugh at. It's still summer anyways, so why not take off some time to see it?
