I am fed up with talk of ratings. Nielsen is an out-dated system, and one which we no longer need. Since most people watch TV through cable or satellite these days, couldn't there juts be an 'opt in' monitoring service for ratings instead? At least then you get a somewhat more resonable cross section of the nation. It's crazy the way desisions about what is being well recieved and what isn't are made on such very tiny population samples. Also, the fact that things like TiVo aren't taken into consideration just makes it worse.

I know I know, advertisers need to get thei data from somewhere, or else how can they tell where best to plug their products? I think targeting advertsing is the way of the future: attach ad space to a household rather than a show. Most TV is subscription nowadays anyway, and I'd be happy to give a little bit of basic info on myself (age; job, gender, for example) and receive adverts which are more likly to relate to m, in return for not thinking my fave show could get pulled because a bunch of idiots who happen to sign into the box scheme don't watch it. It might also reduce the number of production choices made on the basis of 'how do we reach this particular demographic': since everything is going the way of TV on demand anyway, they can look at the actual watch ratio of a show to determine its popularity, then work out some kind of way to table the show cost with its popularity, combined with the household targeting and sell ad space that way. The advertisers hit their target demographic without TV shows needing to be linked into one or the other specifically.

Hmmm - as I type this i am very aware I need to work this out a little better, lol. But I'm no marketing person, and my point remains! Nielsen = teeny, tiny population slice:nobody cares! This is why I get adverts for car insurence while watching cartoon network!!!

So, apologies to the forums I've not been on in a while. My MA has taken up much of my otherwise free internet time, so I've kind of had to step back these past few months. Come September, I can finally get back online, and on with my life (wait - that's not healthy, is it? lol I am kidding. But I should be around a bit more)

Anyway, I'm just checking in. So much great TV has happened since my last post: Dr Horible's Sing Along Blog. I got addicted to How I Met Your Mother and 30 Rock. Battlestar came back and blew my mind, and S2 of Burn Notice is up and kicking ass, as is s3 of The Venture Bros....... It's all good.

XD

Oh, and Freakazoid finally got a DVD release (which I cannot yet afford. But knowing it's out there keeps me warm at night. lol)

I shall be away to the West of Ireland for about 6 days, for camping and surfing. The likelyhood of my having net acess is....not good. So please don't panic if I take a bit longer to get back to you with submissions.

Also, to all the people submitting to the Freakazoid guide, thank you! It's gotten so much livelier since I've been 'away', and it's really good to see. I think for a while there were about 3 of us, so it's nice to see old Freak get his popularity back.

Also, I MET DAVID WARNER AND SYLVESTER MCCOY!!!My nerdgasms were pretty intense. lol. Both are exceedingly lovely people. (Also met Patrick Stewart, but sadly he was a bit 'meh'

Anywa, hope y'all are keeping well. Have a good one.

So, Merry Christmas everyone! I hope santa was good to you all, and your turkey was wonderiffic!

Christmas TV seems to be going downhill - or maybe I'm just getting old.

American Dad xmas special, as pretty good.

Dr Who was god awful! (someone make Russel T Davis stop - hand it off to someone who can write.)

Ah well - Futurama xmas specials all the way, plus a little Blackadder's Christmas Carol. Oh, and Garfield (childhood nostalgia).

Anyway, I hope you've had a good day whereever you are!

TTFN

xx

Some people just don't have opinions. Like janey_27.
janey_27 must really love MovieTome and agree with every review we've ever written! What other reason could janey_27 possibly have for not rating a single film?
