Ok so the title of this blog is the title from a horror movie Eli Roth did a few years back. And it fits because i spent this weekend at my families cabin in Oklahoma. It was a really fun weekend, i had friends over...but i'll go into that in a moment.
Earlier in the week i got a call from grandfather, he told me he wanted me to get down to Oklahoma to check on the cabin. And since i'm like two and a half hours from there i said i would. So friday morning i got ready to head out there. I packed an overnight bag and i proceeded to make my trek out to the cabin. Emma came by before i left and i told her about the cabin thing. And she told me she was free and would come with if i wanted? So i followed her to her place and she packed a bag and we went on our way. And on occasions like these i'm so glad for the advent of the IPOD/IPOD dock. My car has a built in dock it was i guess part of the whole IPOD your BMW promotion but in any case. It makes for a better drive. My taste are erratic in the car so i love having access to all of my music. But the ride down was really fun. Emma had all of these know your mate quizzes and she pretty much quizzed me the whole way down. The quizzes ran the gamant of the predictable to the outrageous. But they were fun and they passed the time well.
So i missed the turn at first to get to my property. I haven't been here since i was 17 so i was sort of going by memory and mapquest. But i found the exit quickly thereafter, and i turned in. the place is on 4 acres so the cabin is kind of far down. But it's a beautiful place. it's pretty secluded. It's has woods neighboring it but the cabin is pretty much been cleard off from the forresty aspects. My grandfather got this place about 16 or 17 years ago. He got the land and the rest of his holdings from a former associate who defaulted on a loan. So the cost came when he had the cabin rebuilt. He origionally saw it as a retreat for the family, but we never really used it. But he was doing a lot of business in Oklahoma back then and so he ws living short term in the city, and he used this place as a retreat to take his mistresses. But anyway about a year and a half ago he had it remodeled because he planned on selling it. So the cabin is kind of sizeable. It has four bedrooms and a guest room. So i don't know it works. But grandfather has never been one for the great outdoors. He had all the trees surronding the cabin that interferred with it getting a cable/satellite signal. So he had everything in the cabin retro fitted to a very modern technological degree. He went with a south western vibe with the decorations but it's cool stuff. Sorry for the long exposistion but i'm trying to paint a visual picture of it, since i can't figure out how to upload actual pictures.
Anyway we got in and took a look around. I had an invetory sheet with me that i used to make a note of te things that were supposed to be there so i could fax it to him. So after i went into the office to fax him a copy me and Emma decided to take a look around the cabin. We went for a trek around the premises. We took this golf cart that here for traveling far distances. And i have to say that i love the thought of having land, being able to walk and look as far as the eye can see and hace it all belong to you. It's a great place to come and reflect and spend time away from the city. We stopped of at the pond and did a bit of gazing. When we got back into the cabin we ate something watched a movie and pretty much fell asleep. Emma had a short work day and we decided that we would make a weekend out of it.
So we got up really early and headed back. I wen't home wen't for a run and called up some friends to invite them out there. I got supplies for the weekend and i wen't for a run. At about 2:00 p.m the people that were going met me at my apt. And we plotted out who would ride with whom. We took two seperate vehicles, i traded vehicles with my mother who has a larger suv and one of my friends had one so we were on our way. The ride was a lot different than the first one. Needless to say a lot of different conversation taking place but it was fun. I was able to avoid driving because on of my friends Tim, is a great driver and is better suited to long treks than me. The drive seemed to go by really fast this go around. And we got there at about early 5. The first thing that happened outside of getting out the bags. Was the asinging of rooms. There were five berooms and a living area. And 8 people came so it wasnt that crazy to divvy up, a couple of them were couples. WE did the whole showing of the land and the cabins ammenities. And pretty much told everyone to go off and explore and come back around the time of te dinner thing. My friend Kelly was there and she always someon i like to have around, we have known each other so long that we don't have to hyper verbalize, even though we do because were verbal people. But her and Emma are starting to become more friendly. Which was a tad odd at the beginning because well Kelly has seen me go thru my share of girls and she never thinks i'm serious about anyone. But she sees that i'm doing well with Emma.
So we sort of did this bonfire thing the first night it was cool. I hung out at the pond which i love and later that night i had a bunch of business calls and e-mails. But yeah it was a fun night a lot of stuff going on. I woke up before every one else, which is pretty much par for the course. I'm an early riser always have been. So i took this time to go and explore the more wooded areas of the property. And i completely lost track of time, i found this spot that has this really cool oaktree. And i was pretty fasicnated by it. SO i went back to find a camera, and three hours had passed. People were putting together an extended list of items. They were going to the market. So i showered and i took out my camera and went out and shoot some footage to see if i could use this place for a shoot at a later date.
So after people returned to the market a bunch of people went out to the pond to go for a swim. Me and Emma hung out a lot doing random stuff. And later on that night we had a dinner party and watched a loop of cabin related horror movies, Evil Dead, Cabin Fever etc.. It was a really fun night. A lot of fun had by all. So some people left that night that had work/school. Me and Emma left monday morning.
SO i've been back a few hours. I'm getting ready to go to this art thing for my friend Amiee so i'll cut this short. Or not i'm not sure how long it is already.

Your week-end sounds great for the fun you had with your friends too. Last summer, I had a similar week-end with my cousins and sisters (plus the significants others) at my cousin's father-in-law's cabin. Staying late, remembering being kids together. We're suppose to do it again this summer so if it happens, you'll here about it again.
Are you a little sad, that your grand-father want to sell it? It sounds like a place you're really fond of.
