Was losing all my freinds, was losing them to drinking and to driving

Was losing all my friends, but i got em' back

                                                                 Brand New .

So the past couple of days have been pretty cool, a lot has happened so i'll try and leave out things that were pretty basic and run of the mill. Of course the title of my blog is a huge hit from the 80's band Duran Duran. Me and Emma and a few friends wen't to 80's night at this really cool club called Hailey's in Denton. I've gone a few times before i saw the Hold Steady and Rogue Wave together great show. But i'll talk more about 80's night later on.

Well lets see, i had to do more work on that history thing. The one that i was working on with that girl Eliza, who had a bit of a crush. So i was sort of wondering how she would play it now, i didn't wan't any awkwardness. But it was cool and i was glad, we pretty much finfished the project and she's a cool kid. She's witty, and i'm glad i can be cordial and not have to worry that i hurt her feelings.

I hung out with my friend Brian, he's putting together an origional score for the film i'm doing for my film course and it's coming along really well. It's very cool electroish intrumental stuff. Akin to Dntel or Do Make Say Think/Broken Social Scene. But it's cool stuff. After that Emma called and said some people were going to Hailey's for 80's night. And wanted to know if i wanted to go? ANd i was like sure if you wan't to. SO we made plans to meet some friends there. I've done the whole 80's night thing once before, i wen't with my friend Kelly. And it wsas fun i love 80's music, i'm a child born of the 80's so it's kind of cool to see a bit of that decade recreated. And i love 80's music as well. I grew up with a lot of it played in the house. My dad was a hipster in college, and he was into really great music. And he was an avid music collector, which is somehting we have in common. But i was looking over some of his stuff the other records the other day and he's got really great stuff. He had all of R.E.M.'s stuff on th eorigional vinyl as well as the Cure and Genesis, Billy Idol, and a lot of old folk stuff. John Phillips, Nick Drake, and every Dylan LP and 7 inch. And he bought everything on cd format shortly before he died. So i have a vast collection of music from that era due to him.

And it's weird because i saw some videos that were shot of him and my mom back when they used to go out, and it's kind of funny to see. They were cool in there time, they wen't to all of the hottest clubs in LA and they seemed to genuinely have fun. But we all wen't in full 80's regalia. I did the whole Don Johnson Miami Vice yuppie look, and Emma did the mini skirt and leg warmers thing, she looked really cute. And that's something i've been noticing a lot lately that Emma is a beautiful girl. I've been with a ton of pretty girls. The cheerleader soroity type, etc... but i'm not really duper attracted to that anymore. And Emma is honestly a gorgeous girl, she used to model breifly high fashion work. But she gave it up to fully pursue ballet, which turned into music. But she's smart which you really have to be for me to actually date, i tend to get really cerbral at times. Not intentionally but i grew up around a lot of college graduates and my mother didn't allow us to speak slang in the house, at least around her. Education and the proper to speak and conduct one's self were paramount growing up. But basically i'm saying that i no longer choose girls based solely on their looks, there has to be something besides that or it gets old quick and i lose intrest.

But we get there and ther playing a lot of cool stuff and it's as if were back at studio 54, they go all out and it's a fun scene. So we were there for a couple of hours and we had a lot of fun. We left and got coffee from Karma and pretty much hung for awhile talking about what happened woth us that day prior to the club. And we wen't back to her place. And her roomate's crying her eyes out when we get there, and she's in the living room. So you can't help but see her. So We decided to tend to her and see if we could help at all. She told us that her ex, who apparently she;s crazy obseesively in love with has gotten engaged to his curent girlfriend. And needless to say she's not taking it well. And i find it a bit disconcerting that she subjecting herself to this degree of mental distress. As Fallon her ex, was one of the worse boyfriends ever. He cheated on her all the time, he always made her pay for stuff when they wen't out even though he has money, he pretty much engaged in a series of what can't  i do to this girl. And for the most part there was nothing. Now i've only know her roomate about a month or two. And her and Fallon had been broken up for some time then. But she never got over him or moved on, so i heard a lot of this from her and Emma. Kara (the roomate), is under the impression that there soulmates, and that all of the things they wen't thru together is a testament of thier love. So she hasn't been with anyone else since the breakup. Which was like 8 months ago. And i know Fallon socially thru mutual friends and he's told me that he's told her multiple times that he he's never getting back with her. And now she's sorta becoming a stalker, she's showing up at places she know's he'll be at. And it's really not helpful, i told her she should maybe talk to a professional. That i would even fit the bill for it, because honestly i don't see a good outcome for her if she dosen't get a handle on it. But for the most part she'll be cool and she's not a complete drag to be arond, but then she'll see something and it'll just set her off. And we've started to spend less time at her place and more at mines, because Kara always just sort of makes herslef a 3rd wheel that never leaves when were there and we don't wan't to be rude and do te whole hey kid were kind of actaully here to actually be alone with each other and not here your nonessential and ramblings. But she always trys to bring up some hugely depressing topic and it's just likr god, kill me now. So it took a few hours and an ice cream run on my part to get her to actually go to her rokm and stay there. And we pretty much came to the conclusion that we will be going exclusively to my place for the forseeable future.

But after a night of coddling Kara, i decided we needed something to get her out of our system. So i when got home i started looking for something interesting or off the beaten path for us to do. And i found it. A spoken word showcase for this sort of trippy folk comedyish troubadour collective that was playing that night.

I also wen't to visit my maternal grandmother. And she's my absolute favorite maternal relative. She always got me more so than my mom ever did. And she didn't crowd me and try and make me tell her things when i was a kid like my mom did. I talked to her because maube she wasn't after me to do so, i don't know. But she's aces. And she's been in and out of the hospital with tests lately, and now she's back home. Which is good to know. So i spent the majority of today over there, she has this really amazing garden there and i helped her plant some stuff. And when i was younger i loved doing that kind of stuff. Both of my families are big on gardening and landscapping to most benefit said gardening so...

After the grandmothers house i hit the track and did six miles, and i wen't home to get ready for the show. I picked Emma up and we did dinner and saw the collective and they were amazing. It was really interesting stuff, truly origional. We wen't back to my place as niether of us wanted a repeat of the night before.

I LOVE 80s music. The Cure, U2, Van Halen...That was nice of you to help out with the roommate. Sounds like she really needs help. Wish I had time for gardening/landscape. I think one of my favorite trees is dying.

Okay, 80's night? That feels cruel to me, it's always 80's or 70's something in my house. For once, I knew what your were talking about in your downloads. Do you know The Cures 'Kyoto song' (the old version, the first version I mean)? It's really really good, I haven't heard it for years and it is still with me; a little like The Smiths 'Girlfriend in a coma' which I have now, but I hadn't heard it for years before and I still knew it pretty much by heart. You might imagine I was a 'dark' teenager by my choice in music at the time and you would be right!

I think you gave Kara really good advice, she needs help. I do hate the kind of girls who just can't be alone and I'm not sure she's that kind since you said that she has broken up 8 months ago and she's not looking, but technically she's not really alone in her heart. About her ex: getting engage after 8 months? That seems a little quick to me unless he was already seeing the girl at the same time as Kara.

Really happy for you that things are going well with Emma. I think going for personality is always the better way to go, looks do fade and even if personalities evolve you'll find you'll evolve with the person you're with or well, sometimes you'll have grown apart, but that's not what anybody wishes.

Yeah 80's ,music is really cool. It's held up really well, more so than most expected. Yes i know the Cure song your talking about i like it a lot. And the Smiths are one of my favorites still.

Yeah Kara is a bit of a handful, but she's cool sometimes ewhenever she's not dwelling over Fallon. And as far as Fallon, getting engaged i think the girl he's with he got pregnant, and that's why he's marrying her. I'm almost positive Kara dosen.t know.

But that really sucks about your favorite tree dying.

All those songs that you listed are just great.
Man the 80's had some really good tunes.

Yes they did in fact have great tunes. I'm glad i was born in the 80's. So much good music preceeded my birth.

Yeah I agree the 80's had awesome music my best friend loves the music she's actually the one who got me into listening to such music. I love the Smiths. I hope everything works out well for Kara. Fallon sound s a little like my ex but thank God I didn't turn into Kara. I pretty much let go of the whole soul mate idea. Emma sounds like a keeper. You're lucky your grandmother is still around. I never really got to spend time with mine.

Yes 80's music is really cool, and Fallon isn't as bad as he seems. He just never really cared that much about her. And i hope it works out well with her she's kind of a presence in our lives now. Yeah i don't know what i think about the soulmate thing, my parents really dug each other and were happy until he died so....
But Emma is a cool girl, i could easily stay with her for a long time to come. And the grandmother is really neat, and it sucks that you don't get to spend that much time with her.

Ah...the 80's...my favorite music. I grew up in the 80's so a lot of the songs take me back to middle school and high school.
I love your list EXCEPT for #3...I never liked that one. I don't know why because when it came out, everyone loved it...uh, 'cept me. *shrugs shoulders*

99 Luftballons, i like it it's such a fun song. But yes the music of the 80's has aged very well.

Finally, I know the first song you have suggested, and low and behold I know them all. I was born a bit earlier and they were my high school songs. Remember 16 Candles, we were all excited when that came out. It sounds like you are having fun indiesoapfan, keep up the good times.
