Well, we're pretty much 5 years into the "next" gen. I can still remember the hype I felt on the eve of the 360's launch. It was like nothing I felt before because it was the first time I had a system pre-ordered. First time I really cared about a launch. Looking back now, this gen was probably the most expensive by far. But that really is cause I'm older and can afford to buy any game I want (except now cause I'm unemployed). I started adding figures in my head, and the answer looked pretty ugly. Here's a little too detailed breakdown.

THE SOFTWARE/ACCESSORIES

63 x 360 games (that's with a conservative estimate of traded in games)
----------
63x 69.99 (CDN) = 4,409.37

4 years (not quite 5 payments yet) XBL
----------
200.00

1 XBox Controller (at launch)
--------
60.00

1 Xbox Guitar Hero 2 Controller
-----------
110.00

2 Play and Charge Kits
----------
100.00

1 PS3 Controller
------
50.00

5 PS3 Games @ 69.99
---------
349.95

TOTAL - 5,279.37

HARDWARE

1 x xbox 360 (launch) = 422.00
2 x Nintendo Wii (one a gift, but I still paid for it!) = 500.00
2 x PS3 (sold one, bought it again) = 1200 CDN

TOTAL - 2122.00
-------- 5279.37
--------------------
7401.37

And this is without adding in rented games which could bring it up another grand or close. What this means?

7401.37/5 =1480.27 a year on gaming.
1480.27/12= 123.36 a month on gaming

More importantly...
12 x 5 = 60 months of gaming bliss!

So our new redesigned friend Game Informer publishes 200 this month. A sleek nice cover (the second in the makeover) is all you need IMO. A game, the name of the magazine and nothing else. Looked fantastic for Epic Mickey last month and good for Zelda this month (8 bit Link!). And then I read their top 200 games of all time...

Oh boy.

Whatever, their first mistake was starting at number 1, who does that? It's supposed to be a countdown, you searching through the pages, seeing how high your game has ranked. Not a freaking give it up on the first date list! Okay, okay, onto the top 3 then, let's see...

3. Tetris
2. Super Mario Bros.
1. The Legend of Zelda

I couldn't disagree with the list more if I wanted to. And see how much better it is when you're reading down, lowest to highest? And that's only THREE! Anyways, the make a big deal on history within their explanation. Well, history does not make things great. It's called the greatest games of all time NOT the most influential games of all time. If so, then good job. But its not!

Here's the real list:

3. Super Mario 64
2. Super Mario Bros 3
1. The Legend of Zelda: OoT

Yes, they are the greatest games. There is no way if you were on a desert island you wouldn't want these master pieces. They are perfect in everything they do. Whether it be 3D brought to life, the greatest platformer ever, or the most epic game that any child, or adult can not help but to fall in love with. The Legend of Zelda might be influential and groundbreaking but it is also very very hard, repetitive and annoying. Still a great game, but oh God is it not number 1.

When you play the original LoZ you do not get that special feeling, that goosebumps, that awe you do when you see Hyrule as it is meant to be. When you're playing Super Mario Bros, you're not seeing that next level that SMB 3 takes it to. And more importantly, you're just plain ol' not playing Tetris.

GREATEST games, Game Informer, get with it.

I always thought thats what PSN should stand for. Not Playstion Network, but Playstation Nation. Its awesome cause it rhymes! *High five*

I've been a multi-system owner all this gen, whether it be all three, or PS3/360. My Wii was sold last year and I may get another one for exclusives, but by God, that system sucks.

Even though I have a PS3 for little over 3 years now, I probably put in less than 100 playing hours on it (more if you count movies). Why? Because with the 360 beating it in every department, I just never bothered unless it was exclusives. I feel if they keep upgrading though, I'll make a transition. What kind of upgrades? Well this is what this blog is about. My personal top 5 ways the PS3 could improve.

5. Cross Game Chat
Yes I know, it's talked about lots and lots. But if 360 could do it for almost 5years, why is PS3 still behind in features? I just don't understand! There is nothing more easy then seeing a friend online and clicking their name and inviting to chat. Less than 15 seconds. I see no reason why PS3 can't put more emphasis on online...

4. Headphones
Speaking of online, why isn't every PS3 selling with a headset? Something else 360 was doing on day one. If you want to run ads saying "it only does everything (it really doesn't)" derrrr you should at least support voice chat! How else can we hook up with friends to get a match of KZ2 started? Oh yeah, phone them, tell them to go into this room, enter the solution of pi (3.142235r2382340)and so on. But this is mixing in with...

3. Game Invites
So easy with 360 since day one. Send a text OR voice message saying "LETS PLAY" and accept. OH MY GOD ITS SATANS WORK YOU PAY 50 BUCKSA YEAR FOR THIS!!!

Sigh

2. Remote Control/Menues
This might not seem very important to some people but it is to me. You are touting a blu ray play, a next gen system that plays the sweetest movies and you got no fricking remote? WTH? Now, you might say, "Hey douche, this can't be done at 299! You want headphones a damn remote? SATAN!!" and I'm like "whoa, chill". When I paid a insane amount for the stupid thing it didn't even come with crap. Not even HDMI, even though it spouts 1080P lies. You're telling me a system that does everything (it doesn't) should come with a compromise? YOU ARE SONY! You're supposed to make dvd players, with REMOTES! I want to watch movies without my controller telling me to charge...argh!! And when I bring up that god awful menu at least give me some options in fast foward! Not "super slow" to "ha, you just skipped 15 mins!". We need little thing called scaling! LOOK AT THE @*(*(@ING 360 dvd menu!

1. Stop telling me it does everything. It clearly does not. It doesn't even match a year older competitor.

I'm not a fanboy, I want my PS3 to be good, but I just hate when something that is so simple can not be done. I'm just kidding about number 1 too, I ran out of ideas. And rants. Give me a remote when I paid 500 bucks (CDN) okay? Or a freaking wired headset so I can bad mouth people and then die seconds later. Its my speciality, no big deal.
