Babel is a painful film in many ways--the three stories are painful, the convoluted tie-ins are painful, and the complete lack of satisfaction you feel at the end of the film is painful. Taken separately any one of the three stories would have made a good plot--but mashed together you're left with a sampling of depressing thoughts that add up to nothing more than a vague feeling that maybe life isn't so great after all.

Dead Man's Chest is entertaining, but lacks the magic of the first film. The movie has some great scenes, and carries many of the same traits that made the first film such a joy, but there are some elements missing.

Dead Man's Chest is entertaining, but lacks the magic of the first film. The movie has some great scenes, and carries many of the same traits that made the first film such a joy, but there are some elements missing.

The central plot of the film dealing with Davy Jones is interesting, though the parallels between the Flying Dutchman and the Black Pearl are a little too close on some points. Also, Sparrow's previous deal with Davy Jones isn't fully explained, and you're left wondering how this all came to be in the first place.

In the end, the film is a fun continuation to the first movie in the series, delivers more wacky pirate fun, and leaves you eagerly awaiting the next film in the series.
