Yes, I finished this game at last. I first played the game long time ago on my PC but the PC suddenly had a problem with the power supply so I couldn't play the game. After the last semester ended I bought a somewhat good HP laptop that is capable of running Bioshock on very good settings. When I got the laptop I installed the game (which was kind of annoying) and started off from the beginning....

The games doesn't deliver the best first impressions but it does give a motive to try and understand what is going on. You start off in a plane crashing on the sea, then you wake and try to go to solid land where you find yourself in an underwater world known as RAPTURE. Then you pick up a communication device and a person called 'Atlas' communicates with you. This guy knows this Rapture place somehow and wil guide through it in exchange of you helping out his family....and the game continues on......
I can tell you one thing Im sure about: this is not an ordinary FPS game, it's very different. Normal FPS games, like Half-life, consist mainly of weapons such as the Shotgun, pistol, Sub-Machine gun, grenades, etc. This weapons ARE found in Bioshock but they are defenitely not enough for you to survive Rapture- you use PLASMIDS. These plasmids enable you to use superhuman powers. You find many of them, the electrobolt, Incinerate, Winter Blast, Telekinisis, Insect Swarm, Taget Dummy, etc. Here are some images for you to look at:
(electro blot)
(Incinerate)
(telekensis)
(winter blast)
If you know how to use every plasmid on the right time then you'll make life in Rapture much much easier. The enemies in the game are mainly people who lived in rapture and used to many plasminds that they became aggressive to anyone they see, they're known as 'splicers'. Well they're not hard to kill but sometimes not easy as well especially if you only use guns.
There is the other way stronger enemy: the Big Daddy. You are not obliged to fight them but it is advised to so that you can get ADAM from the little sisters the big daddy protects, and use this ADAM to upgrade your abilities in all ways. The worse part is that Rapture has not only one big daddy, but has dozens of them.....try to kill them all. The good part is that if you don't bother him he won't bother you either, but if you piss him off he will let you piss alright![]()

The final boss is hard once you get to know how he fights, but he does look intimidating at first. I found a way to kill him easily: I use the 'target dummy' plasmid to create a dummy as a decoy so that it distracts him off me, then I unleash my insect sward plamsid on him so that bees go and attack him, then I light him up using the 'incinerate' plasmid and then I take out the shotgun and shoot the crap out of him...I have to do this 3 times![]()
As a conclusion I'd say Bioshock is one of the best games I've ever played on any platform or PC, and the factor that helped it a lot (other than gameplay) is the quality of the graphics of the game- the place looks beatiful from both artistic and technical point of view. The light effects, explosions, electrical effects and all that were a significant factor in letting the game be that fun and amazing. Another significant factor is the storyline- it starts off slow but when you reach a point in the game where you might say "WTF!!!" and the story is helped by the fantastic voice acting from all characters. If you finish the game, you can always pick the 'Hard' difficulty and play again.
My Final score: 9.7
(PS- I actually finished the game 3 days ago, but I wanted to write a blog of the Euro 2008 final first
