Neat. I've never heard of that beer before, mind you I have never been to Germany before either. Normally I am not a fan of the Pilsner style beers, I tend to enjoy the more bitter or darker beers like a hoppy IPA or a doppelbock or porter. I was intregued however by the "Spicyness" you say as being distinctive of German beers. Something I will keep an eye out for if it ever graces the isle of my local liquor board store. Or if I ever go to Germany.

My first beers were all German beers. I love most German beers. When I tried an American beer for the first time (I can't remember the brand now), I almost spit it out!

Underage, sorry.

just saying "Bitburger" out loud is fun. How is Becks regarded over there? Becks Dark is a personal favorite. What about Heineken? That's the beer of choice in Hawaii. You show up to a bbq with a 12 of Heinie's and you did right.

"Note, the author does not condone irresponsible or underage drinking."

And here I was just about to ask the real question on everyone's mind: but how many does it take to get you drunk?

Funny. I clicked to this as I drained the last of a bottle of HOP-OCALYPSE IPA. It's made up the road in Frederick, MD and it's deeeelish. Here in the D.C. area we're lucky to have some world class brewers, Dogfish Head (Rehoboth, DE) being chief among them.

Glad to here you chiming in more often.

Hope "the fatherland" is treating you well.

Now on to that review...

@Samson089, I prefer the hopppy beers myself. Germany, despite the reputation, has been difficult for me, beer-wise. @MJoanne, the cheap American beers are almost uniformly bad. @Aberinkulas, in a couple of years I guess.

@polsci1503. Becks and Heineken are largely viewed as beer that wealthier people drink. They tend to cost significantly more around here. The only people I see drinking those beers are the undergrads.

@eggmcmuff, Dogfish Head is one of my very favorite breweries. Their Sixty Minute IPA is wonderful.

Good stuff! Now that you've submitted your Beer Review for peer review, it's publishable!

@eggmcmuff: As a fellow east-coaster, I love Dogfish Head. They made some wacky raisin porter 2 years ago that was the single most uniquely tasty brew I've ever had. I don't think they've made a beer that wasn't at least INTERESTING.

I'll keep that one in mind if I even visit Germany.

I like cheap beer
