Now the thing is that when I remember the first so called "Limited Edition" appeared to be everything but a limited edition of the game. Till this day I'm still able to find the LE of Doom 3. Also the LE of Halo 2 was to be found long after its release. Though I think that the LE's these days are more limited than before. Which of course contributed to the decision of getting the LE version for Bioshock.
Another thing which improved a lot is the content a LE contains. It used to be nothing more than a "special" casing and a bonus-DVD and if you'd be lucky they'd throw in a poster. While nowadays they really put an effort in creating that "special" content for the LE's. That 2k Games for instance. While the game was at his end stage of development they'd put up a POLL asking what people would like to see in their LE's of the game. And the most popular item also made it into the box. For instance the stickers and the figurine. But there's more, there was one item that couldn't make it into the LE-box. Which was an Art-Book of the game. So their solution to that "problem" was simply to put it online for download which made it included in every Bioshock in a way. This I just call a brilliant move and the more reason for me to pre-order the more than tempting LE version.
But now they even took the LE a step further. And the first game to be release on 3 different ways is Halo 3 (who could've figured that
). Being the normal standard edition, the limited edition and the legendary edition. And like many I also thought it was a little crazy for them to create yet another edition that probably would cost a lot more (which it does). But on second thoughts I realized that it's actually perfect for a person like me. Who likes to collect every single thing that can be brought in association with videogames. And sure enough I pre-ordered the legendary edition of Halo 3. After realizing how simply a few "collector-items" made me change my mind. And it really doesn't have much to do with the fact that it's Halo3. Cause I would do exactly the same with another game I would like. I for instance wouldn't have mind a legendary edition of Bioshock. Maybe I even would've liked that more, but realize that considering the anticipation of both games. And mainly the history behind both makes it not hard to think way there isn't a legendary edition for Bioshock.
So after all I think that it's a good thing what they're doing with the limited and legendary edition and who knows what else is on the horizon for that matter. And of course it's all about the cash but as long as they keep the content and what u pay for it reasonable. Then I'm all pro limited and legendary editions.
So all by all I'll soon be a happy owner of both the limited edition of Bioshock and the legendary edition from Halo3. Other games I also wouldn't mind having a limited edition from are; Assassin's Creed or even some Wii games like Super Smash Bros. or Mario Galaxy. The more items I can get my hands on the better, LE's FTW.
