It doesn't actually begin until sundown, 10/31, but I'm going to jump the gun and wish everyone a happy Samhain (pronounced, roughly, "sow-en").

Still trying to work up a Halloween/Samhain podcast episode, but I'm totally stuck for a topic. And since tonight will be decorating, answering the doorbell, then going to a friend's house, I don't think I'll be able to record tonight at any rate. So if you have any ideas, lay 'em on me!

Given the increased modern exposure of Wicca and the easy availability of Google, do you think there would be any value in doing a show about the Wiccan belief and the origin of the holiday? Maybe just a discussion of what's coming up in horror? What would you want to hear?

Anyway, however you celebrate the holiday, I hope you have a great one. May you have ghoulies, ghosties, long leggedy beasties, and candy corn. 'Cause it's justnot Halloween without candy corn.

Hurdy gur,

-Marc

I'm still waiting for the commentary about geeks-vs-genre, but honestly it's fun listening to you guys talk about anything you like.

Next up: "Chuck vs. The Election"!

I always like to hear whatever you have to say! Hope Heather and the little one are doing well!

Happy Samhain. I haven't had a chance to listen to any of your podcasts for a while, but they are always entertaining.

I knew about the pronunciation, and it bugged the heck out of me that Supernatural of all shows mispronounced it. They said Sam-hain.

Happy belated Samhain!! Hope everyone enjoyed it!

I like Samhain as a holiday (Irish or rather Celtic New Year since it is in the Scot and Welsh ancestory too) because, to date, it has not been commercialised like other holidays. Those who observe it can still quietly set a place at dinner for those who have passed and honour them without multi-media hounding them to buy the latest and greatest "dead honouring placemat" or somesuch ! Aile law Samhain to you Grailwolf and thanks for keeping it alive.

TJ - The Nerd Fury rant is coming, don't worry.

SMGslayer97 - Thanks! Heather is traveling this week (visiting her mom out of state) but all is well otherwise.

gmvail23 - Thankee, Sai.

fatfreeoreos - Yeah, I heard. Haven't had a chance to see the episode yet, but I know it's going to drive me crazy.

ravynwolfe12 - And a blessed Samhain to you as well.

legen_dairy - Shh!! You'll give them ideas!

Okay, I'm going to leave the last post as-is. The HTML is perfect (including the XHTML bold tags) but for some reason it's messing up. I'm sure it's a bug that they'll fix at some point and it'll look fine. Until then, sorry for the excessive bolditude.

Nov. 5: Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Posted Nov 5, 2008 7:11 am PT
Squee indeed, sir. Squee indeed.
Posted Nov 5, 2008 10:52 am PT
QoS - Worth it (esp. at matinee prices). Squee, new Bond.

"The Watchmen" trailer, however ...

... SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Posted Nov 14, 2008 8:30 pm PT
I have a bad feeling I could get in trouble for this... but... what's a Squee ?
Posted Nov 20, 2008 6:22 pm PT
I'm not sure where the term originally came from, but... well, have you ever seen a teenage fangirl get really great news? Or see her favorite TV/movie/music star? Y'know that high-pitched sound they make, somewhere between a squeak and a cheer? Yeah, that's a squee. Nowadays it's also any of the non-verbal excitey noises that people make when they're just ultra-thrilled.

However, to be all postmodern, ironic, and cool most folks just say "squee". Often in a very high-pitched tone, holding the "eeee" for a while, and miming extreme happiness. For some reason, among my friends the mime closely resembles the happy "ooh, cheese!" hand movements from Wallace & Grommit (if this means nothing to you, go watch any Wallace & Grommit feature or short, it would take too long to explain otherwise).

Hope I've been enlightening.

I need to know everything that can be known about the new series "Caprica" before my spleen explodes.
Posted Dec 2, 2008 1:11 pm PT
Oh cool you're name's Marc! I enjoy Halloween, it is a good holiday(I know I consider it to be one.) Teenage girls and Squee? I'm probably one of them that does that as sometimes I can be very hyper! How come you decided to change your pic in your about me? I like Iron Man, I'm just wonderin'.
Posted Dec 5, 2008 3:40 pm PT
TJ: Trying to get a new 'cast up soon (technical difficulties on the last one we recorded) and will try to get some good info on Caprica. It's just been tough since I'm doing so much digging on Dollhouse and Heroes right now.

Toph_Girl250: Actually, I changed the pic because my old pic got stretched out when the site was redesigned. I was at work and didn't have any of my own pics, so I grabbed one that I could find online and thought was cool. I've been meaning to change it ever since.

Hey Marc, I sent you an email a few weeks ago but I didn't get a reply. Just thought I'd say hi. -Randy

Why does it say it's December 31, 1969 on the comment I just posted? You might want to tell the bug fix people.

Oh, they've known about that one for months now. It doesn't do any good to tell them anything. They just try to convince you it's a "new feature." As for that specific problem, it eventually morphs into the correct date. I just have no idea why it's not the correct date from the get-go.

Nice avatar, TJ, by the way.

Ah, ignored. Well, I get the message. Good luck with everything anyway.
Posted Jan 9, 2009 12:11 pm PT
Yup. Ignored. Or.... I only just realized that there were new posts here. One of the two.

Seriously, just now had a free moment to check my profile and reply. Hope everything's going well with you (and I've chastised you before about jumping to conclusions). I'll try to respond with more detail when I have a chance.
