I never thought a single game could make so much money. 11.5 million people play WOW and each pay $14.99 a month, that turns into a massive $172,385,000 for one month. Multiply that by twelve months and voila, $2,068,620,000. Now where does the money go? Surely it can't all go to server upkeep. I think there's more to it than that. I'm all about power to the people, and all I see with this is WOW players are giving the power to them. To me, a game that makes this much money is too big, and they should, at the minimum, reduce the fee. Sometimes I wish people had the power to stop something like this. Maybe World of Warcraft is worth every penny these players give to them. I think not.
Wouldn't it be interesting if all current console games were downloaded or copied on to a hard drive rather than bought at a store? Just think about it for a moment. Picture yourself walking into an electronics store with a portable hard drive in hand and going to buy PS3, 360, or Wii game. You go to a computer and select the game you want and purchase it with today's currency. You then insert your hard drive and when the connection is good to go, it copies from the computer to your drive. Your drive then has a password created to prevent theft of the game. You then go home and enjoy it.
Well, that probably is a ways off since we just had Blu-Ray players hit as the next generation media reader. The scenario above would definitely save on materials, that's for sure. Now a days, with hard drives holding storage in the tera-byte values, all the games can be held on a single drive. Maybe when eighth generation consoles are released, this will be a possibility and maybe even a reality.
