Daniel Craig delivers a ruthless and brittle performance in what is arguably the sophisticated Bond film ever. The characters are complex and well-developed and the script is tight, cohesive and dramatic enough to allow its excecllent cast to stretch their legs. Eva Green carries her own weight as an intelligent and fascinating foil to Craig's damaged goods assassin. She's not just a beautiful woman and he's certainly more than just a beautiful man. No silly gadgets or cheesy dialogue, but some brilliant and sardonic wit. Dame Judy Dench deserves praise for fleshing out her M character. Her relationship with Bond is interesting to watch and she has some nice moments as the head of 6. Love this movie.
My one complaint is that it should have been rated R. The violence is incredibly realistic and the dramatic stakes are high. There's terrorism, torture, organized crime and Craig's tortured performance coming into his identity as an assassin as he accumulates realitiscally brutal kills. Don't get me wrong, the movie rocks and there is no excess or gratuity here but this isn't a movie for kids. I never thought Bond movies were, but this reinvention of Bond is definitely for grownups.
